Upside: Much to Davis's chagrin, they'll be forced into playing predominately modern lineups, which means more spacing on offense and mobility on defense.
Downside: The possibility of something close to the pre-Achilles version would have raised their ceiling. Kuzma making a leap is now definitely paramount.
It's probably for the best in general, but probably bad against the Clippers, because the Lakers' best chance was to physically overwhelm them and force them to play more of their underwhelming traditional lineups.

Obviously they'll bring in a minimal third big for depth. The question is, do they keep his salary on the books for a potential mid season trade or waive him and if so, does it pave the way for Anthony?
Think about the probable domino effect: Davis to C, Kuzma starting, Dudley the lone backup big wing and no bench scorer.
If Iguodala or some other useful wing option comes available via buyout at some point, either waive Anthony or Daniels depending on how things go.
Who will the Lakers now pick up? Kenneth Faried, Joakim Noah, Marcin Gortat, Marquese Chriss, Scooby Doo?
