Maybe, but the GOP at least made some attempts to follow "norms" in the past, and the right held that up as an example of their moral superiority whenever they had a chance.

Back when he was young, and country over party meant something, he was represented his district and state with honor. Being a conservative then was not the same as it is today.

He and I had a fairly direct conversation at a town hall years ago, when he had the character to still face his cons uents, about his lies on death panels. He could not answer why he lied about that, so he tried to deflect and dodge. Didn’t work. So he ignored me. Then his staff pulled me aside. I wear that badge with honor.
