Spurs & Gatorade Team Up for Basketball Clinic

SAN ANTONIO – Last fall the San Antonio Spurs and Gatorade announced the 2008 Youth Basketball Clinic sweepstakes. From October 3 through November 10, youth ages 8-14 stopped by local H-E-B stores to fill out entry forms.

On March 18, 100 lucky winners were invited to practice on the AT&T Center court from 6 to 8 p.m. with Spurs’ Coaches Don Newman and Brett Brown. The coaches had the kids dribbling, running, sweating and smiling as they worked through various basketball drills.

San Antonio Spurs players Bruce Bowen and Ime Udoka surprised the participants by quietly walking onto the court and taking over practice. Each player worked with a group of kids on offensive and defensive tactics and fundamental skills. Following a much needed Gatorade break, the youth gathered around Bowen and Udoka and quizzed them about everything from basketball to movies.

Participants left the Spurs and Gatorade 2008 Youth Basketball Clinic drenched in sweat, Gatorade goody bag in hand and smiles on their faces.
