    Other than purposely looking for an international incident, there's no reason China would use a "spy balloon".

    They have plenty of spy satellites, that the US can't do anything about, so sending something so detectable makes no sense.

    They have plenty of spy satellites, that the US can't do anything about, so sending something so detectable makes no sense.
    Maybe China put some covid up in that balloon and they want the US to shoot it down.

    Not without being considered an act of war and putting at risk our satellites.

    The US does track their orbits and has some mitigation in place (like covering certain areas or conducting work underground), but it's difficult to conceal big structures or equipment movement.

    You also have to add Russia having their own, and now North Korea appears likely to launch one soon as well.

    What will the fallout be from this other than balloon fragments? I think the administration was hoping it would drift into Canadian airspace and be their problem.
