I have three live SRV DVDs: Live at Montreaux 1982 & 1985, Live at the el Mocambo, and Live from Austin, TX - a compilation of two appearances on Austin City Limits. On the second half of the Live from Austin disc, he was clean and sober and ing amazing. The contrast between the first and second Montreaux shows is stark. In 1982, no one knew who he was, and there was some weird interpretation of blues raging Europe then, sort of what Ska is to Reggae. They booed his ass mercilessly, if you understand that whistling is also booing in Europe. From that gig, he landed his session on the David Bowie (who was in the audience and came backstage) Let's Dance album, and rocketed to s om. In 1985, he returned as the headliner and conquering hero.
God rest his soul.

His final performance on Austin City Limits was completely bad ass. The El Macambo show was also very good.
