Sorry, but they didn't create their social programs out of the improvement of their economies. The social programs were already there, they reformed them to be more efficient and became more social democracies (a variant of socialism) and that's when their economy improved. Social democracy is a political, social and economic philosophy that supports economic and social interventions to promote social justice within the framework of a liberal democratic polity and a capitalist-oriented mixed economy.

When you look at Sanders' program, this is clearly a social democrat program. Social democracies work in Europe.

Social democracy is wayyyyyyy closer to capitalism principles than to socialism. Danish ex prime minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen disagrees with you and Bernie about all this. It's quite simple really - none of the nordic countries adhere to the main goals of socialism - distribution of wealth equally ( no, lots of big nordic companies and rich capitalists ), government maintaining control over society ( lol ) and public/state ownership of land and industries ( again, no ).
You can invent whatever term you want, and sure there are a million slippery ones already, but nordic countries are not socialist by any means. Half of them are still monarchies ffs.

never trivialized anything each death is tragic. my issue was the destruction of the world economy, sucks that so many people aren’t going to have jobs to go back to. I’m glad our president wants to get the country back to work when feasible and safe. I also hope he continues putting pressure on 3M etc to get people the PPE they need.
and it’s no question that the US is doing better than Europe. For all the stats and math people love here people get butthurt when people point out Europe death rates are at least double and at worst 4-5x as bad as ours. They’re objectively worse at handling the pandemic than we are.. Italy is probably even worse too, they’re not even testing people past a certain age. We’re so spread out that we aren’t going to ever be as bad off as them.

social democracy was one of the split of socialism back in the 20s, the other side more extreme becoming communism. Sanders doesn’t ask for equal distribution of wealth, come on man, don’t invent things. The nordic countries all have more than 50% in public spending showing a lot of redistribution, they have huge taxes. They are really far from the capitalism asked by republicans and closer to what Sanders is looking for and still far from what moderate democrats are looking for. Still, they have less poverty, less crime, better healthcare and education.
