Sunday's attack on Camp Simba in Kenya is not related to the ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States, an Al-Shabaab spokesperson told Al-Jazeera.
Earlier, the Islamist group said it gained control of a part of Camp Simba in Lamu county, but local officials stated that the attackers were repulsed.
Al-Shabaab is a Sunni group linked to Al-Qaeda which has been fighting in the wars in Somalia and Yemen. Meanwhile, Iran and Iraq, currently in focus due to the US killiing of Iranian military official Qassem Soleimani, have a Shia majority.
