    This is a stretch.

Amazon operates internationally. A city, as big as NY is is a drop in a bucket to them at the end of the day.
Amazon needs more local operations than most companies. Just how it works. They're not going to pull out of the place.

Still good to have these secured jobs though. The more the better.

This is also off the mark. The company said it would try to go for that target. Saying so it’s not so.

These 1500 jobs are actually guaranteed which makes all the difference.
    WTF

How much gas lighting can you folks do to try to salvage some dignity for this girl? 1500 jobs is better than 25,000 jobs because "a bird in the hand"? This is Amazon, they aren't a startup company hoping for big things.

How a grassroots Seattle movement delivered Amazon a major loss

Keep defending Amazon and it's billionaire owner Jeff Bezos .

Billionaire corporations should get ZERO tax subsidies. No more socialism for billionaires. Period.

Yeah, Amazon especially needs New York. Pretty glad the city of Austin is closing the giveaway spigot a bit, though other en ies are lining up to bend over like Williamson County did for the new Apple ranch.
It almost never really pays out from the standpoint of the governments that offer the subsidies.

3 billion in subsidies for 27 billion in tax revenues? OP is an accountant, right?

And, rather than build a huge campus in HER district (6-8 million square feet), they are leasing space outside her district in Manhattan (335 thousand square feet). What a huge win for AOC.

Companies almost never really live up to what they promise for the subsidies they get.

You have almost no case to make that anything promised would ever really materialize.

Amazon made, what, 11Bn in profit last year.

How much did they pay in taxes on that?

And then what? Are you going to be happy when they pay taxes but you have to pay 10% more for your butthole vibrator?

The argument here is that LIC will now become a ghost town and will never have an economic development because Amazon was afraid to negotiate.

    It's cute.

No dude. Tax the filthy rich, the elite billionaires and lower or keep taxes the same for the working class. Let these billionaire elites fund their own Zionist wars and terrorist coups in Latin America. Put government power in the hands of the working class.

    Seriously:

How much of the country's total wealth do you think the top 20% of income earners have? Take a guess.

Put the burger down. I simply said Amazon is a massive international operated company and being in New York is not something they necessarily need. They're not hurting for money after all.

And the other thing I said was that 1500 jobs now are better than 25k pledge ones that may or may not ever happen. That's hardly defending AOC which I dont even like.

Do you care how much your employer pays in taxes? 25K jobs means 25K people pay taxes. The company pays taxes on profits, not revenue, and like all good corporations they take deductions for depreciation.

Are you saying Amazon bringing 1500 jobs in NYC is going to bring in more taxes than if they brought in 25000 jobs? Are you math re ed?

If 1500 jobs is good, then 25000 jobs is better, and given the structure of the agreement, there wasn't much risk involved for NYC.

    AOC ed up.

That second part is stupid. 1500 jobs is child's play compared to even 10K jobs. Again, you seem to imply that Amazon is a risky proposition. This is after all the cities spent millions courting them and making provisions to attract them.

    You folks are ing stupid.

Do you think Bezos sat around on obscure sports forums running his suck about political injustices all his life, while doing not a ing thing about anything? That's what you've done and why you have to show for it.

1500 jobs with no incentives. No cost, all benefit.

25000 jobs that would have cost BILLIONS of dollars. Lots of cost, lots of benefit. (some additional costs beyond the pure incentives are noted in the marke ch article)

Winning the bidding war for Amazon’s AMZN, -0.12% secondary corporate headquarters came with a steep price tag — $3.4 billion.
    https://www.marke ch.com/story/wh...nia-2018-11-14

    3.4bn/25,000= 136,000 per job, cost.

How Amazon’s HQ2 incentives stack up
While $3.4 billion is nothing to sniff at, Amazon had reportedly received better offers. Maryland was offering $8.5 billion in tax and infrastructure incentives to Amazon as part of the bid for Montgomery County, while New Jersey was offered $7 billion in incentives as part of its Newark proposal.

“These regions were not chosen by Amazon for tax breaks,” said Heather Redman, managing partner at venture capital firm Flying Fish Partners and the former chair of the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. “These regions were chosen because this is where the talent currently lives or wants to live.”
Sorry. It wasn't the tax breaks that really sunk the deal, and the cost/benefit wasn't nearly as clear cut as the propaganda cool-aid you drink says it was.

    That is math.

Chump's definition of "reliable news source" includes NYT and WaPo so there's nothing you can post to counter his dissonance.
Ill take those two, especially on foreign affairs. Throw in the WSJ as well.
