Both Boateng and Schweinsteiger for me. Boateng was immense, not a single mistake against Messi. And Schweinsteiger did show a lot of heart, was running like an animal, never gave up. A true leader.
agree with this. Boateng was very underrated.

don't want to be an asshole but also was hoping Argentina would lose because of how they defend and spin every Manu mistake. But they're good people overall, and I like the Midget.

germans wouldve won had they strike from outside the box every opportunity they got, instead they tried to keep on gettin closer into the box...it felt like these clowns wanted to dribble the ball into the net instead of kicking it...

Losing the world cup must be worse than losing game 7 of the NBA finals...because you have to wait four years just for another chance to get back.

It really is a sinking feeling... Plus you don't know what you're going to look like in 4 years....

But it has happened to all the great teams, tbh...

Russia will be a different animal IMO

The Eastern block teams plus Germany of course will rule the WC with an iron fist.

Be@ner teams(Argentina/Brazil/Colombia/Mexico) might as well forfeit that WC they have ZERO chance of doing anything in Mother Russia

As Hater mentioned: Host rotates by continent. So I wouldn't expect Argentina or many of the American teams to duplicate their showing in Brazil. (Only 4 of 16 Knockout teams were American in Germany 2006). As fans, how many Argentinians will make the trip to Russia in 4 years? Or Qatar in 8 years? Fans realize this is a once in a few decades, if not life time opportunity for them personally. Most players usually get 2 cracks at the Cup and hopefully 1 on their home continent.

At 27 years old, Messi could theoretically make Qatar in 2022 at the age of 35. But Argentina is a top fussball nation so I doubt he will be a full time starter at that point, if at all playing.

This is why you see so many tears at the World Cup.

Yeah, I just read it. It's a pity. However, he resigned on the highest possible position... and thus, nobody should complain.

Now who gets the armband? My guess would be Manuel Neuer.

Schweinsteiger. Also i'm not a fan if the GK is the captain.

What's the strategy with having a GK as Captain. I also tend to be against it because a Captain will usually get an extra foul before Yellow and considering GK rarely get themselves in that position, it just seems like a waste.

Without knowing the dynamic of the locker room. I'd like to see

    Euro's 2016 = Bastian
    WC 2018 = Hummels

Lahm retiring hurts Germany's chances for Euros 2016 but helps for WC 2018 as it offers an extra 2 years to find his replacement. It's time for Dortmund to make an imprint on the German NT

    - CB Hummels: Breakout WC, easily Top 4 German in the Tournament
    - Winger Reus: Arguably will be #1 offensive player
    - FB Durm: Lahm's replacement
    - MF Gundogan: Kinda of question mark given his back injury but 2 years is enough time to re-cooperate.

Lahm's retirement from national football will hurt the Reich in the short term but we never need to worry about the future with such a stacked talent pool. Even for the 16 euro cup we will still have a solid defensive line with Badstuber & Shmelzer back healthy.
