I was in boot camp sitting out in the yard shining my boots as we all were. Sitting up against the barracks wall. I was in San Diego.
All of a sudden we could feel the ground rumble, looking out at the grinder (just think a huge parking lot, yep, concrete) it looked like rubber as a huge wave of concrete moved on. Weird!
That was the last noticeable earthquate I've seen here in Cali. We do get a once in a great while, what was that?

I think people fail to realize how devastating a 8.0+ would be.
This % number fails to mention the 7.0-7.9 magnitude earthquakes which would be terrible just as well, especially for a populated area .
Maybe some do. What I laugh at is the prediction, not the magnitude. 8+ would be devastation.
For those who don't know, a magnitude 4 is 10 times greater than a magnitude 3.
A 5 is 10 times greater than a 4, etc...
We normally have little rumbles in the 3-5 range. A magnitude 8 is 1,000 times stronger than a 5.
If we are lucky most of California will slide out into the Pacific and they
will want to form their own country.... If we are lucky.....
