With the intent of his strategies being obviously to produce tanking losses (Kirby chucking loss after loss while Byron goes on record wanting him to shoot more, etc) it begets the question why did Byron take the job?

Scott is just cashing in what could be his last NBA coaching gig. He's pretty much absolved from almost any fault (minus the hate he receives from the die hard Kobe fans) while the Lakers unofficial social media spokesperson (Magic) backs him up unconditionally.

The beauty of it all is Scott doesn't have to do much but allow hero ball to appease the head of the snake. Lakers lose and the media (rightfully so) points at Kobe for sabotaging an awful collection of one year rentals.

Scott is loving his life while thanking his lucky stars that the Buss' kids values emotional decisions over sound and logical ones.
