In a case such as this we have to separate the truth from the BS and then look at the big picture. I know there's stuff I still don't know and I'll modify my stand if I get some new info.
Here's some more info on Cuba.
The absolute worst place to get info is the American media. Here's some info on the American media from another thread.
Nowadays only people such as these...
...simply listen to the American media and base their opinions on it.
Just ignore the shills who post here. They're getting paid.
A lot of Cubans come to live in Madrid where I live an I hear stories about fascism in Cuba. Here's one story.
In Cuba it's against the law to use your home as a mini restaurant for tourists to make some extra money which is understandable in communism. An effect of that is that people are afraid to invite foreign friends over for dinner as the neighbors may call the police and say that they're operating a clandistine resraurant for foreigners. I hear that when this situation comes up, the courts always find the people guilty of operating a clandistine restaurant when in most cases they've only invites some foreign friends over for dinner.
I heard about some african medical students studying in Cuba who were overheard criticizing the political system. They were taken to the airport and sent back to Africa in the middle of their studies.
Yes there is fascism in Cuba but that doesn't change the fact that it used to be a de facto American colony whose resources were being stolen by American companies and the revolution put a stop to that. That's what the revolutionaries were fighting against. They weren't thinking about communism; that was a surprise that came after the success of the revolution and that's why a lot of revolutionaries left after the victory. When the people of a colony manage to oust the power that was enslaving their country, sometimes the main power group during the war simpy takes over the government and stays in power
and there's a government that could never get elected in power. Maybe that wouldn't have happened if the country had never been a colony in the first place.
The official American version which says that simplisticly says that Cuba was a democracy and everything was fine and a bunch of communists changed it from good to bad is simplistic and misleading. The American companies that lost what they used to have would like to get it back.
The Cubans had better be careful.
