No. It’s just the current state of that poll, which shows he has the best chance of beating trump in the general.
if it’s going to come down to the status quo establishment types like Kamala, buttigieg, or Biden, then yes between those it would make the most sense to nominate the one with the best chance of prevailing.
I still think bidens numbers will decline with time. He’s prone to gaffes and comes with some baggage. As of now he has a lot of default votes from people who aren’t very into politics that remember him as Barry’s vp, imo. For some, that might not change. I think it’s far enough out not to make decisions on a single poll

Those polls are clearly designed to scare people into voting for Biden over Warren. It's not that much to do with Trump at this point. They tried the same submission polls on the GOP in the 2015 primaries; they showed everyone with a better chance to beat Hillary than Trump.
