Sounds like McConnell is going to lobby hard for convicting and ensuring Trump can't hold office again in order to purge him. Not sure if it'll be successful since after Murkowski, Romney, Collins, Sasse, and Toomey he'll still need 11 more senators. I could see him get Cornyn. Don't think Rubio will convict since it'll kill him in 2024. Corporate money seems to be demanding it though. LMAO at yet another proof that Trump is just McConnell's useful idiot.
Cocaine Mitch is up to something no way just purging trump is his endgame.

McConnell said this afternoon that impeaching Trump would make it easier to purge him from the Republican party

But what about the 74 million, Mitch?
We live in a two party system. Almost half the country will vote for literally anyone with an (R) next to their name on the ballot. Donald Trump is case and point of that. Yet republicans could lose the far right wing but that's another discussion given other candidates could probably fill the void to please them.

It definitely has to do with his control of the Senate. I think he has some idea of turning a Senator or two to help him. Is there any democratic senator that is likely to go red?

This is the only reason conviction is even a possibility.

It has nothing to do with Trump did.

Just as republicans treated their response to first impeachment as a personal political calculation, so too will they threat this strictly as a political calculation but the calculus may have changed now.

trump isn't worth the risk anymore.

and he's banned from everywhere on top of that anyways
Trump is also more politically damaged than every without his Twitter account that he uses to threaten primary challengers.

I think McConnell thinks Trump can't win in 2024, so is useless to him now and threatens their party in the midterms and in 2024. Plus as boutons would call them, Corporate Americans are pissed and withholding money. And McConnell can gain cheap bipartisanship points with the public that he can use to fight against whatever very limited reform Biden tries to propose.

yes, exactly. was about to post.

if no purge then trump still manages to be the most influential member of the GOP, even after this mess.

He used Trump to get 1/3 of the Supreme Court filled with hard right loons and also got 1/3 of the federal judiciary filled. Couldn't have done either without kissing Trump's ass for four years. I do think he royally ed up not getting bribe checks out before the election though, seeing Trump only lost the presidency by about 40,000 votes.

Pence already sent a letter saying he doesn’t support invoking the 25th amendment.

This was always a useless exercise. They should have begun impeachment yesterday. Instead they wasted Monday and Tuesday.

Im thinking trump - even tho the dumb always doubles down-

    will resign

    because he cannot risk conviction

in his future political strategy...wont matter tho- because this traitor will be in prison in the near future

if he would have just approved $1200 checks the weeks before the election he'd have the presidency and the senate, maybe even the house too.
