    The Finals Contributes to League Setting All-Time Records
    NBA Sets Record Attendance

    NEW YORK, June 27, 2005 – The 2005 NBA Finals resulted in the all-time attendance record for a Finals series with 141,416 fans attending the seven game series between the San Antonio Spurs and Detroit Pistons.
    The new record eclipsed the previous all-time recorded mark of 138,357 fans attending the 1999 NBA Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks.

    Overall, The Finals contributed to a record-breaking season in 2004-05 for NBA attendance with the league setting the highest average attendance in history and the highest total attendance for combined regular and postseason games.

    This year’s average attendance of 17,454 fans per game topped the 1995-96 record of 17,341 fans per game and last season’s average of 17,195.

    The new total attendance record of 22,935,057 this season eclipsed the previous record of 21,855,125 established last season and the 1995-96 total of 21,797,222 fans attending regular and postseason games.

    The 2005 NBA Playoffs featured a record 81 sellouts, eclipsing the previous all-time recorded mark of 69 sellouts established during the 2003 NBA Playoffs.

    not bad for two "boring" teams! I guess this debunks a Piston fan myth I saw on one for their boards. One guy was trying to claim that Game 6 was not a sellout.

    Does the attendance have to do with the 7 games?

    7 games is a big reason the attendance was higher... im guessing.

    Considering there hasn't been a 7-game Finals in a while, probably so.

    I have no idea, but isn't Detroit's 22K seat arena a little bigger than most, also? Too bad we couldn't have had the Finals in the Alamodome.....that would have blown all records out of the water.

    What Neilson? them.. you ever hear of anyone in San Antonio with a neilson machine?..

    ratings and poll's... most people hang up the phone anyway from the solicitation..
