Yeah I’m tired of this from Democrats. This isn’t 2004, no one cares about how “tough” you look on terrorism anymore, people are tired of the endless wars and neoconservative intervention.

”I killed civilians with drone strikes because if I didn’t I’d look soft” what a crock of

He also helped Feinstein get re-elected and he helped that useless figurehead Tom Perez become DNC chairman 4 years ago. Obama is an overrated establishment hack.

(I'm still smarting from the 2008-9 financial sector bailout and Obama normalizing GWB's "war on terra." GITMO still has indefinite detention, we still "torture some folks" there, and warrantless domestic surveillance is still a thing.)

Because she hates American politics. That’s the catch-22, the reason people like Mic e Obama so much is the same reason that she’d never run for office.

One thing to note with Obama, he won the primary over Hillary in 2008 because he voted against the Iraq War and because he promised to end the interventionism that primary voters were tired of. He also beat McCain largely because the war in Iraq was such a cluster and he got to play the I told you so card.

For him to now say that he continued interventionism because he didn’t want to be soft is a slap in the face to everyone who voted for him. He won by such a landslide in 2008 specifically because he ran against interventionism. If people thought staying out of the Middle East was “soft”, then he wouldn’t have beat McCain by so much.

All stemming from their complete inability to control their message and the way things are framed. They can look "tough" by not giving into this kind of bull if they framed it properly, instead they always play by the rhetoric and rules laid out by the Right. Sucks.

This. He continued the neocon vision there, with some Clinton sand-pounding. What makes everything so stupid is that he did stay non-interventionalist in other theaters when he probably should not have. Standing by as Russia took back Crimea was an epic mistake, IMO. That's where he could have made a meaningful stand. Instead he'll be a nobody regarding middle east policy in the longrun.

exactly, Democrats are such ing pussies and they always take the bait. They’re so scared about what Republicans might say about them that they’ll move to the right out of fear. The real problem is these establishment Dems like Pelosi don’t have any ideals they actually stand for or believe in so they’re constantly worried about how the political winds might blow.

In 2012 Obama promised there won’t be any new taxes on people making <200k. This year, even after Trump cut taxes, Biden doubled the number and promised there won’t be new taxes on people making <400k, purely as a reaction to Trump’s smear campaign about raising taxes. By 2030, the Dem candidate will be promising no new taxes on anymore making <5 million a year because they’ll be worried about being labeled a socialist

Completely disagree. Putin would have been nuts to let Ukraine into NATO and we ed up trying to get them into it. Russia's Pacific border is almost useless for shipping because it's iced over so much of the year and we can already shut off their access to the Atlantic through the Baltic Sea pretty easily in Denmark so the Black Sea is their best access to the oceans. If we'd stop trying to get old Soviet satellites into NATO Putin would have never bothered us.

Yeah I agree with this. Putin only started to with our backyard after we started ing with his. Since we inserted ourselves into the Ukraine fiasco Putin has managed to destabilize the US and much of Westenr Europe with AstroTurf alt right movements. Putin simply isn’t an enemy we can afford, if he leaves the western world alone in exchange for the US leaving Russia and its neighbors alone that’s a pretty damn good deal.

I agree with you Ukraine to NATO was high risk low reward considering where NATO already stood. I still think doing the political equivalent of jack while they took Crimea was an epic missed op. Set the stage for them to continue to do that, as well as China to reclaim their near abroad.

Different president same joint chiefs. He probably listens to the joint chiefs since he didn't know anything about it and took their advice. That's probably why so many presidents make the same decisions once they get into office.

Probably but I’m just going off what he apparently said in his memoir about it.

IMO the joint chiefs have never seen a war they didn’t like and are conflicted by the fact they don’t want to withdraw troops to the point where their job isn’t necessary anymore. Asking the joint chiefs if the US should involve itself with a conflict in the Middle East is a bit like asking a barber if you need a haircut. I get why presidents follow them but I don’t think their decision making is 100% impartial and devoid of any ulterior agenda.

Agree with this. I think some things are just out of the president's control when it comes to trying to curtail our imperialist ways/military industrial complex.
