I cannot believe it but the Spurs have a shot at maintaining that record 50 win season streak, and in a lockout shortened season. It'll be tough because certainly this is no team priority, but maybe other teams on the Spurs' remaining schedule will also opt to rest players in lieu of the fast-approaching playoffs and the Spurs might win a couple of games by default.

I believe the streak is 14 consecutive seasons. If the Knicks merely were to have consecutive 50 win seasons there'd be a media frenzy.

Again, this isn't a season priority, but that's quite an amazing accomplishment.

    Somewhat related.

In 1999, the Spurs started 6-8, then went 31-5, and finished 37-13. A .740 winning percentage.

In 2011-12, the Spurs started 12-9, have gone 28-5 since, and are currently 40-14. A .741 winning percentage.

It shouldn't be a 50-win season streak, it should be a .600 win percentage streak. In a normal 82-game season, 49 wins is a .598, so setting the bar at .600 is the equivalent of 50 wins in a normal schedule, while allowing comparisons for shorter seasons.

By the way, with their 40th win, the Spurs have already clinched a .600 win percentage this season. In 1999, 30 wins would have been a .600 win percentage; the Spurs went 37-13 if you didn't remember.

Thanks for the stat Mel. I didn't realize just how close the records were from then to now.

As for continuing the 50 win streak, while I'd love to see it continue, I'd rather put health first. There's no use in chasing for a couple of games if it means we lose one of our guys (Like Manu last year)...Still, if the Spurs make it to 50 again, I'll certainly be happy. It'd break the record if I remember correctly. We're at 12 now, tied with the old Showtime Lakers.

I'm with 79'er.... .600 is what to aim for. Kinda irritating that media doesn't mention 99 as a 50 win team even though they were winning at a 61 win pace and went 15-2 in the playoffs.

Using the .600 criteria, this will be 15 years in a row and 20 out of the last 23 years (two of those years were wins of 47 and 49!)

    Pretty incredible consistency...
