And, damn, that was a surprising quote by Pop. He's getting to that point in life where you are so old you don't even care to be brutally honest.

Pop is just being diplomatic and not offend Aldridge. The reality is, White is in fact the best player in the entire roster. I've been saying this early this season.

DeRozan is still pretty good and he could get better with more practice with the Spurs, he is only 29 years old. Both Aldridge and Gay have become better players as Spurs.

I agree. DDR can improve next year if he enters in the state of mind he can't be a first option for a championship team. LMA is improved in defense last year till we had a decent peimeter defense...Murray season was a big part of it. Gay has improved a lot this season in his offensive choices...he's taking a god amount of shots as high percentage shots. Buth Gay and LMA this season often looks poor on defense...imho for the most part that's because ther's no perimeter defense when White is out.

DDR is an unguardable shooter when he's on. When he's not, he is just a guy with the ball in his hands too much in an offense that relies on motion. If he can outscore his opposite, then his defensive liabilities can be overlooked. But if he is on a unit that includes Forbes or Mills who also have problems on Defense, then we have a problem. Two or three poor defenders isn't a good unit. This is a team problem, not just DDR.

White becomes the glue that holds various combinations of players together because he is very good on defense and can help cover for whoever he's with that cant play defense. You may not notice him sagging off his man to help clog the lane area, but offensive players spot it and tend to take another option. This is defense by positioning--a matchup zone if you will-- that doesn't show up on the stats unless he actually makes a steal or a foul. He really has become a irreplaceable player on a team without any other player with two way skills.

The one thing that makes me hopeful for the White/Murray pairing is how genuinely happy Murray is that his teammates are doing well. He is always talking positively about his teammates and his upbeat positive at ude seems infectious with our team. He doesn't have the personality to mope about White being better or playing more minutes than him. He will turn those negative thoughts into positive work habits. The same holds true for Derrick. They should thrive for many years to come.

Honestly if Pop (he won't ever do it) were to convince DDt to come off the bench then we maybe contenders again
