If cards are played right, there should be a relative 5 months of normalcy until the election. How that plays out between these two terrible candidates, it's anyone guess though.

I can't see (5 months) El. I could just be scared, but, by the time this is over the entire country is going to be in a state of shock. Real shock, not the usual nonsense after a regular scare where we guffaw, pick up the few pieces that have fallen and carry on as if nothing happened.

    Something has happened.

One would hope some lessons were learned. I think the vast majority of people will go back to work and won't have much time to think about anything else, simply because that's how the majority of people live. There's no time for introspection or grieving, the altar of money doesn't like to wait, especially when it's in dire straits.

You might argue I'm being pessimistic, but I'm honestly being realistic. I could be wrong though.

That's how we used to live.

True, or, not we've now been taught, have seen & been presented & conditioned by MSM + our own facts a different way to live. One we never have had to live by, or, even consider.

We're standing outside a Wal-Mart waiting for someone to leave so we can take their place among the allowed 5 persons per 1k square foot of that store.

& anybody worth their salt ain't goin' nowhere near (work) when they're at home making very close to 1k a week (including unemployment + the $600 per week stipend). I don't blame 'em. Why risk it? Because the old man is urging us?

"No. I'll go back to work not when the unemployment runs out, but, when that $600 a week runs out +++ when I've run out of the boodle I have been painstakingly able to squirrel away from that unemployment/stipend in the interim." AND THAT WILL BE KEY.

    Man in the house: $900.00/week
    Woman in the house: $900.00/week

    TV in the house.
    Cable in the house.
    Bed in the house.

That's not true. Just because he told that woman where to jump?

It'll be a skewed campaign whereas perhaps Bloomberg just hermatizes himself leaving Biden strapped.

All the zest is out of the electorate. It's a drudgery now. Low turnout will help the old man, my old man, not yours.

I'll take a wild guess on the query:::Nixon?
November is shaping up to be record turnout, just like 2018, and likely more so.

Trump was doing poorly before bungling the response to this.

Bungled response + downturn in economy = Once again, a Democrat has to clean up Republican mess.

Sokay. Fun will see who Biden picks as VP. That will be the person running in 2024 at the top of the ticket for reelection.

Even if the Coronavirus is a little factor in the 2020 election, which I have no reason to believe it will, what will be a big factor is the millions of people out of a job with no health insurance and a Administration dead set on eliminating the ACA with nothing but a Trump pipe dream....remember, the Dems swept 2018 because of healthcare....no reason to believe that with more people out of a job, and without healthcare this won't be the most important issue in Nov.

Interesting. I didn't know the answer. I was under the impression that 2nd terms generally are won by fewer votes the second time around.

The answer is: almost all of them.

2nd terms are generally won by a larger margin of victory than the first time around.

dubya/shrub won 2nd term with the smallest margin, so "war president" and Medicare Advantage corporate socialism probably saved his ignorant butt. rightwing character assassination/slander of Kerry helped

    You forgot Clinton.

Reagan's victory was not the "greatest".

Hard to beat Washington's margin. or, for that matter, 1936. FDR's reward for being one of the other times that a Democrat had to clean up Republican bungling of government.

FDR didn't clean it up. Tokyo throwing a rock at the big ol' wasp nest did, however.

FDR was the man responsible for so many government projects to put people to work BEFORE the war. The precursor to many government run agencies taking care of people defying “capitalism solves all”.

Red team hates it, blue team adores it.

Seems to me like FDR's re-election results speak for themselves as to who the public thought was fixing problems. Amateur hour historical economics aside. FDR took the better part of a decade to fix the problems that caused the First Great Depression.

FDR was as close to a dictator/king as the USA has ever had. An incestual troglodyte and one of the worst presidents in our history. You're accurate on one thing: he took over a decade to "fix" the Great Depression. The "New Deal" of stimulus packages proved that government spending alone couldn't save the economy, but what ultimately did was supply-side economics caused by the demand filled by the rising threat of Germany and the imminent threat to homeland security from Japan.

He kept winning re-election, like modern day Putin, because he had little/no resistance. The voting bloc was almost entirely Democrat since the conservative religious Southerners were still solid Democrat voters (Dixiecrats, today's ruby red GOP voters) and FDR had long since won over the progressive and minority voters away from the Republican party with his rhetoric and New Deal policies. Therefore, almost everyone was Democratic in the 1930s (both liberal and conservative), except for some moderate families in the Western US and a few Wall Street types did yet vote Republican, but those voting blocs are and were extremely tiny.

But, MM, you forget how FDR commanded former "Col. Hogan" from "Hogan's Heroes" to report to him...

    3 weeks later - Washington, D.C.

"General Hogan, if you will follow me, sir."

A couple hallways, a couple turns and they arrived. "Go right in, sir, he's waiting for you."

"Mr. President." General Hogan came to attention, ed his arm and held his salute.

"Ah, Robert, please forgive me for not rising, it's this infernal chair. Come, son, come close and tell me everything."

    ---The End---

definitely not Obummer, who in '12 lost 2 states + 2 additional electoral votes that he won in '08. Barely winning by a hair in Florida and Ohio. And that was vs. a complete loser in Mitt the Twit.

what ultimately [fixed the great depression] was supply-side economics caused by the demand .

That was a truly bozzword-y hash of thinly understood terms regurgitated by a truly mediocre mind.

Supply-side economic theory has been pretty much definitively debunked in study after study, were you intelligent or educated enough to evaluate them with any degree of competence.

What's funny is that you add in "government spending alone couldn't save the economy" then allude to "the rising threat of Germany and the imminent threat to homeland security from Japan."

Tell me, how much did the government borrow and spend to meet this threat? Asking for a friend.

Your problem in making your case is that you do not understand economics. You think you do, but, in reality, you do not. Libertarians, if they understood free-markets, would not be libertarians. It is what makes them irrational.

    Saw that.

Even with the trippy virus that can't be good for the Republicans. Imagine what happens if their old white-ass base stays home.

Hard to know if it is meaningful.

Probably more meaningful then the dinky race that TSA got red-assed for a few pages back. That was funny.
