There's a great book called, "Killers of the Flower Moon : The Osage Murders and Birth of the FBI". Talks about how the Osage were run off their original land and forced to settle on some rocky barren area in Oklahoma.
Turned out that area was over a massive amount of oil. At one point in time, the Osage Indians were the richest people on earth on a per-capita basis.

Anyway, it's an interesting read. Just for the murder mystery part of it.

Hilarious to see the 4 rightwingnutjobs abandoning, like Scalia, textualism/originalism, when it doesn't suit their politics.

One problem with ruling was pointed out, that 100s of cases litigated in state court were litigated correctly, and are now perhaps to be thrown out.

Quite amazing that SCOTUS would rule that the USA must respect Indian treaties, when the USA has for 100+ years raped every Indian treaty, repeatedly.

Interesting that this came out of a sex crime case.

The case concerned Jimcy McGirt, a member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation who was convicted of sex crimes against a child by state authorities in the Nation’s historical boundaries. He said that only federal authorities were en led to prosecute him.
Mr. McGirt argued that Congress had never clearly destroyed the sovereignty of the Creek Nation over the area, covering about half the state. The solicitor general of Oklahoma took the opposite view, saying the area had never been reservation land.

Awesome to hear. Now maybe my tribe (Commanche from OK) can get our gaming rights restored since we got raped on that deal.

From what I read, this seems to only apply to legal jurisdiction and doesn't contemplate returning any real land rights.
    I think anyway.

You're just the worst. You offer nothing and pretty sure your near-death mother is getting close to choosing between supporting her failure of a son and her generic cigarettes and Dish Network bill.

Honestly, don't care about our land rights, OK land is just that...Oklahoma land. The government paid people to settle it for a reason.

I just want my tribe to be able to cash in. Commanches traded gaming rights for "recognition" and got fawked.

Let us take your money like all the other tribes. We're literally the largest tribe in the country and even the smallest tribes have Casinos.

What tribe do you belong to, SFS?

I wont lie. I don't know my tribal history as well as I should. I just know my great grandfather was a Commanche born in 1902 on the Oklahoma reservation and relocated to Texas in 1929. He married my great grandmother who held a land treaty from La Villa de Bexar dated 1830 something.

This treaty was so strong, we had property on the Guadalupe River in New Braunfels. I wish I had the exact address, but if you know where that shanty was on the elbow turn on the river, that shanty stood for over 160 years because of that treaty. My great grandmother housed many a relative from down south there and kept that shanty occupied til her death in 2011.

There's even an article from the 60's about my family running that farm and a stuck pig that ran from the ranch, slid down the (then mudded) slope into the river in front of hundreds of toobers and river goers.

Sadly, I don't know. I grew up knowing that my grandfather was 1/4 something. I might have even known the tribe when I was little. But by the time I really became interested in it, he had passed. Along with my mom and her two sisters. (not all at the same time).
I tried using Ancestry to track him back but I hit a dead end. And from what I understand, the genealogy tests can't tell you what tribe.

Any ideas on how to figure this out would be appreciated.

Oh for sure. I'm 50% RS. I'm just trying to figure out the rest. Some of it is probably whatever race is best at blues and trivia.
And then whatever left is from super fast race. Maybe Jamaican.

It should be noted, that this loss is 100% on Trump, Gorshich was the tiebreaker and he is a litteralist in terms of how he interprets tribal law.

It should be noted that a majority is needed and they got a majority with 5 of the 9. Therefore it's not on one person.

Oklahoma citizens should conquer the land again from their new overlords tbh.
