He sucks. Do movie executives really think he is worthy of this type of hype year after year? Normally December and July openings are left for the biggest of the big movies, why does Will Smith get one practically every year? He sucks- it's bull and I'm sick and f'ing tired of this.

Meh to Will Smith movies overall. But I thought he kicked ass in Legend. And he's still the Fresh Prince, so I mean, he has that going for him. I'd agree though- it would be nice to see Will Smith do a non-blockbuster. He's never just the lead in his epic movies, but like a ing huge centerpiece. He should just chill and try some different, more moderate .
Will Smith turned down Matrix for Wild Wild West.
I lost a lot of respect for him after he butchered I am Legend.
What??? BOOOOOOOOOOOO
That's the only Will Smith movie I've even halfway liked in the past decade.
Because they make gobs of money at those times.
/thread
The script butchered that movie, it was alright till the lady and her kid showed up
The book, man. Books are usually 10000x better than the movie but in this case, they almost completely ditched the story and turned this movie into another cookie-cutter zombie/vampire flick.
They had gold, and they completely disrespected the uniqueness of Matheson's creation.
The movie was probably all right, I was planning on watching it soon again for the of it...but Will Smith always talks about how much research he does for a movie (Ali, Pursuit...). He took this script, and figured he'd spit out your basic zombie/vampire movie for the millions
It was the third time they turned the book into a movie, and neither one has followed the book
haha, and I am never one of these nerds that cries about book adaptations
but for whatever reason I get bummed when I Am Legend is mentioned lol
True. I think it was more of the director and screenplay.
The main character in the original story was an unsensitive scotch-drinking, ass-kicking compulsive smoker who was tempted to bang the hot vampire chicks. That would've been way more entertaining than Will Smith's character.
Matrix sucks too
what role would he have been?
The script was written long before Will Smith was ever involved. Originally Arnold Schwarzennegger was supposed to star in it, so thank Will Smith for making a semi-crappy movie that could have been much much worse.
4th of July is for the "Will Smith sci-fi thriller with lots of big ass guns and Will saying 'Awwww HEELLLL NAAAWWWWW' at some point"
Christmas is for the "Will Smith drama, a story of redemption that will have you in tears"
The obligatory shirtless scene happens in all of them, however.
Word.
But who can really outdo The Charlton Heston?
Don't forget Han .
Release Date:
2 July 2008 (USA)
Wow, really?
That's the Hollywood equivalent of picking Bowie over Jordan.
I didn't like the matrix nor wild wild west.
So its a wash for me.
I like Will Smith myself. Hes a decent actor but seems to be a good person.
Will Smith would've sucked as Neo.
Plus it would've been entirely too unrealistic. Everybody knows black people don't know how to use computers.
+1
He was also good in The Enemy of State. I'm pretty sure that didn't come out on any holiday. He lost me in iRobot though.
Han made me want to write the studio and ask for my money back. Granted it was a rental and I didn't go see it in theaters, but even with the low expectations I had for it I was disappointed.
