Baseline I never built my quarantine box

But looking to build one now. I got about $600 for the video card. What can I get and is in stock? Looks like everything is out of stock these days!

Just gotta wait for RTX 3070 to come in stock somewhere. Or you could buy RTX 2080 Ti if you find a good deal on one. 2080 Ti seems slightly faster than 3070 right now, though I imagine in a year or two those positions will reverse.

AMD's RX 6800 and RX 6800 XT release on Wednesday. I haven't paid too much attention to the cards but here is one of the better sources for PC hardware reviews discussing what is known so far about the cards.

I personally wouldn't buy one because DLSS-2.0 looks to be a killer feature in Nvidia RTX cards that AMD has no answer for. DLSS-2.0 is an incredibly impressive upscaling technique that allows you to render at much lower resolutions while still looking native resolution, which is desperately needed if you're going to turn raytracing effects on in some games.

Ryzen 5 5600X for $300 is the best upper midrange, Ryzen 9 5900X for $550 the best high end. Also they're as hard to find as the RTX 3070 is.

u were right the Ryzen CPUs are harder to find than the Nvidia 30x0

How would an Intel 10850k work out???

I suppose 10850k is in a middle ground where it's a little better than the 5600X for gaming but should age significantly better (thanks to 4C/8T more at a good IPC) for $150 more, but isn't as good now and won't age as well as the $100 more expensive 5900X (with better IPC and 2C/4T more). One thing you sacrifice going Intel though is PCIE-4.0, which might limit your SSD speeds for future use. I don't know that PCIE-4.0 vs PCIE-3.0 will make a whole lot of difference this next 5-6 years for SSD for gaming, might make a bit of difference if you go high end on another gpu in 3-4 years. So my answer is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ whether or not you should wait to be able to snipe a Ryzen chip. But ElNono might be better able to provide some insight here.

10850k is definitely one of the best gaming cpus on the market right now though. 10600k is pretty strong too if you want to go a little cheaper, it's pretty close to the 5600X when overclocked. Wouldn't surprise me to see some real deals on these Intel chips for Black Friday since Intel is now considered the lesser company by gamers based on how strong the Ryzen 5000 series is. But it's not like Intel is putting out crap while AMD is making gold, the Intel chips are still awesome. Unlike say around 2002 when Intel's gaming cpus really were complete dog compared to AMD's. Or 2011-2015 when AMD cpus were dog compared to Intel's.

I will most likely go with intel as those Ryzen chips are like finding gold in the desert. And are overpriced as well due to demand. Ill have to pay up $400 for the CPU plus over $800 for the gpu

    God damn

    Already did.

It was get one now or never. Since it would be impossible to find before 2021

It comes with a stupid game battlefield which I probably will never play

As soon as I got it from walmart it went out of stock and now going for over $1,000

PCIe 4.0 SSDs are totally worth it perf-wise, but I saw the prices on the Samsung ones are they're not cheap. It's a novelty, so I don't expect them to come down in price for at least another 6-12 months.

Super tough to know what to do right now, tbh, either pay a premium to have stuff if you need it ASAP, or wait it out. The problem with waiting it out is if China gets another wave, you might be waiting even longer and things might actually get more expensive.

Speaking of bitcoin, cryptocurrency hype is ing the gpu market again. Pretty sure most of those RTX 3080, 3090, and 3070 got snatched up by miner gots. If you want to see how ed the gpu market is, check this Black Friday "Deal" from newegg: a ing RX 570 for $190 after using the $15 promo code.

    https://www.newegg.com/asus-radeon-r...82E16814126427

This gpu had been steadily selling in the $120 range for about 6-8 months until a few weeks ago. It's only about as powerful as the GTX 970s we were rocking six years ago.

You have a 1070 right? Those aren't selling for that much right now, $200 or so, surprisingly. Actually about what they have been selling for for months now.

1080 I think. Haven't felt the nee to really do more, but may build another gaming rig for my sons.

Also have a friend of mine in florida that could really use a cheap system. (he is in his 30's and recently had a stroke, so is somewhat limited in income, as it was fairly major, and he is still recovering, I worry for him, and may budget some to help out)

If you're looking to give a Christmas present, 1650 Super for $165 isn't too bad for 1080p gaming. Though harder to run games like Red Dead Redemption 2 can't really hit 60 fps on this card without really sacrificing settings, which doesn't bode well for how it will age now that we're in a new console generation with a new baseline for games to target. It should easily be able to handle 1080p30 fps though since it's a bit more powerful than the gpu in the new XBox Series S, the lower end version of the new XBox.

    https://www.newegg.com/msi-geforce-g...82E16814137486

Something like this (GTX 1660 Super) is still enough to play RDR2 at mostly 60 fps with some tweaking that lowers the settings a little bit from having everything maxed out, so it should have a fighting chance to play new games at 1080p60 for the next 2, maybe even 3 years. It's roughly on par with the GTX 1070: usually a little faster in new games, a little slower in old games.

AMD 6800XT looks like . They were hyping it as being faster than 3080 at 4k but 3080 pretty much always beats 6800XT at 4k. Even worse, 3080 absolutely mops the ing floor with 6800XT at raytracing, and even worse if you use DLSS-2.0 with the 3080.
