He sure did. But the way he's being used on the G-League team and the fact that he's not actively trying to prove he can guard perimeter players makes me believe that's not what the Spurs have in mind... And if Collins had that in mind, then he would be trying more on defense, too. Yet, most of his time on the court (on defense) is him staying in the paint.

I watched part of the game tonight and he shows fluid motions, pretty agile. I’m sure they’re taking precautions to take it easy on him and play him center more for now

Easing him back slowly; he’s worth the wait. We will see him more after the trade deadline I suspect..

What was the assessment of his talent level back when he came into the league and during his brief career. I looked up his stats and they were underwhelming. Does anyone think he has the ability to become a starter or important role player. ???

If you looked at Poeltl second year as a 22 year old, you would be underwhelmed also. Collins was further ahead than Poeltl but had a 2 year set back. Staying healthy, Spurs are betting he'll be an important player year 3 of his contract.

I really liked this signing from the start. If he can stay healthy, this will be a steal of signing.

I thought I heard Dan Weiss or Sean say last night he would be making his debut. Maybe they said maybe. Last night was really the first game I had settled in to watch and could see the wheels coming off in the third and turned it off.

Zollins was projected to be a starter. Drafted #10. The draft evaluations were complimentary.

    https://www.nbadraft.net/players/zach-collins/

The guy there compared him to Brad Daugherty, which might not sound like much, to some people, as memories fade. But Daugherty was a 5 times All Star, back in the day, so that’s a favorable comparison.

Basically, Zollins was never expected to be a superstar, but an excellent prospect, with some all-star potential. That’s how he was seen, at the time he was drafted.

How it stands now, it all depends on how strongly he can come back from the injury.

I would compare him more to Greg Oden at this point. We shall see how his body holds up.

I like Jalen Rose’s comparison to Laimbeer, getting physical, getting rebound, spreading the floor. People may not like Laimbeer’s dirty plays, but you would like him in your team. I would go to battle with Laimbeer anytime.

Let’s see what he’s got. Even if the skills are dulled, I hope his at ude is still there.

The Spurs are really putting a lot of effort media-wise on Collins’ return like he’s Tim Duncan or something

I give Zach and the Spurs a lot of credit here. I honestly thought he would sit the entire year irrespective of previous reports. Happy to be proven wrong and hoping for good health, solid minutes going forward at the C spot. Anything else would be gravy.

Zach Collins becomes the first player to score double-figures in his first NBA game in 500+ days since… Klay Thompson, on Jan. 9, 2022.
