But seriously...PM LEONARD...he writes codec files for a software company

I'm sure he has a easy link to install
I managed to DL a movie and tried to open it in WMP since it is an .AVI and it said "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or a required codec might not be installed on your computer."
So I clicked "Web Help" and it said:
Windows Media Player Error Message Help
You've encountered error message C00D119A while using Windows Media Player. The following information might help you troubleshoot the issue.
Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. You might encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:
*
A required codec is not installed on your computer. A codec is software that the Player uses to decompress a file before playing it.
Typically, the Player automatically downloads and installs required codecs as needed. However, the Player was unable to download and install the required codec for this file, most likely because a codec is not available for the content that you want to play, or because the Internet security settings for your browser are set too high and do not allow you to download the codec.
Try adjusting your Internet security settings to allow codecs to be downloaded to your computer.
*
The file that you are trying to play might not be supported by Windows Media Player. For a list of file types (formats) that are supported by Windows Media Player, see Supported file types.

So how do I make this damn thing play?

Do you have a decoder for DivX/XviD installed? Most AVI movies, in my experience, use one of the two.
If you do not, you can give ffdshow-tryout a shot. When installing, only select the file formats you want it to handle at this moment, and activate the rest as you need them.
the vlc media player is good
I have the latest DivX
Yeah I got that ff thing and have no idea how to use it much less what it is.
Download and install the KLite Codec pack. It will ensure Windows Media Player can play anything but Realplayer files (and that can be fixed also if you want).
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...codec_pack.htm
During installation it will ask you which types of files it should handle. At that point, just select Xvid and Divx 4/5/6. If you already installed it, go to your Start menu ---> ffdshow ---> Video decoder configuration. In that window, you should see the Codecs list by default. If not, click on Codecs at the top of the far left column. Once there, you just click on the Decoder column for each type you want, and select from one of the options (libavcodec works for me).
This is what it looks like (and you can do the same for audio):
Or you can try a different media player, such as VLC, but I like this because it works with any Direct Show player.
Once you hit it, you will not quit it.
VLC never fails.
It could be a DAA file you get those from MAC's who seed. Magic ISO or PowerISO will open it up and you can watch it with VLC although VLC can play partial files unlike the rest.
File Hippo has it. tell em TPark sent you...
or?..................you could have a MKV file!
If you downloaded Show Time's Dexter season opener blue ray quality DVD 30 minutes after it aired, and that had at least 3,456 seeders? It was a RUSSIAN file CCCP
It came from a company that wants to sell you the Zoom player.
You can download it here...............

watch your show for a trail period or you can torrent.
But it also has all the codecs you need brah!
