You have to wonder how differently the team would look had Pop listened to his own advice and retired in 2016. A rebuild might be complete by now. Or, we could be mired in a streak of 20 win seasons.

I just think it’s interesting that he always said he’d go out with Tim, AND picked 2016, back-in 2008, the actual year Tim retired.

And he's only tarnished his legacy by sticking around since then.

Nah. Running off into retirement when faced with a roster challenge is what Phil Jackson does. He will cement his legacy with 26 more wins.

There is a real chance that means two more seasons and I am not being facetious.

I suppose. Looking back folks will only see the total number of wins and the championships. These last few years won't even be a footnote.

    Stop your Pop fluffing spinning.
11 Chips in 20 years and you call it "running off".
He had health issues and the plane rides were killing his whacked out hip.

Owned Popped 4-1 head to head on his way to by far the best modern day Playoff record.
You sniffers getting excited over this overstay resulting in -.500 forevermore longevity regular season wins record.

You're absolutely right, which is why it's so weird that posters keep insisting that Pop staying in his position is "tarnishing" anything. Same way Kobe's last seasons aren't ever brought up when talking about him, no one will remember these last few years - though they might, absolutely, remember him getting the most regular season wins in history. That's a significant accolade to get and will elevate his legacy. So I can see why he's sticking around.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather he leave and let the Spurs bottom out, especially when he's influencing the FO into bringing back Forbes and the gang. But dude has earned to choose his way out, tbh.

Casual Phan who watches for ABC Disney type entertainment won't.

Real BB watchers all know what Kirby and Pop are doing. Timmy Duncans whole legacy of Team above self has been crapped on since he left in '16.
Pops insincere "Get over yourself" lol find a mirror.

Pop stuck around and got his gold medal, he's gonna get the all-time wins record this year or next (hopefully next, tbh, for draft purposes)

it's like Emmitt Smith padding his record in Arizona. nobody cares about or remembers the TOSB stage of an all-time great's career
