In his first action since a July 2008 loss to Fedor Emelianenko, former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia will face Ray Mercer in the main event of Adrenaline MMA III.

First reported as a possible bout by Fiveouncesofpain.com, Sylvia's manager and Adrenaline MMA promoter Monte Cox today confirmed with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Sylvia vs. Mercer will be headlining the May 30 event at the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort in Atlantic City, N.J.

While first pitched as an MMA contest, Sylvia (24-5 MMA, 0-0 Boxing) will instead turn in his open-fingered gloves for a pair of boxing mitts.

"I was doing Tim Sylvia against Ray Mercer as a headliner," Cox said. "First I was doing it in MMA. We changed and thought it would be a lot more interesting in boxing."

Mercer (36-7-1 Boxing) began boxing professionally in 1989. Now 47-years-old, Mercer last fought in a majority decision win over Richel Hersisia (30-2 boxing).

"In boxing, who knows who is going to win," Cox said. "Mercer just beat a guy who is 30-2. He was ranked fifth in Europe and Mercer just beat him."

As an MMA fan, Id like to see Sylvia win. As a Tim Sylvia hater, id like to see Mercer win.

I'm starting to think Monte Cox has lost his mind and is starting to horribly mismanage Tim's career.

Yep, add Tim to the LONG list of freak show fights for him...

He still has so much to prove now that Tim is boxing Mercer...

I still say...nobody has fought harder opponents in MMA than Timmeh. Altho in the end I believe GSP will hold that le.

Keith Jardine is pushing him for that le though...pretty salty...

    Rampage
    Brandon Vera
    Wanderlei Silva
    Chuck Liddell
    Houston Alexander
    Forrest Griffin
    Wilson Gouveia
    Stephan Bonnar

and beat Chuck and Forrest, but still gets so little hype. Too inconsistent...can win a long tough fight or get destroyed in under a minute...

I still say Bonnar did not win that fight. He got the decision because of his name.

Should be a good fight... Silvia is really only a boxer if you watch his fights... ya a kick or 2 but he made his name with his heavy hands.

    Dana interview

-UFC 97/Montreal situation – Says things got blown way out of proportion. Says a new commish got elected and the guy was just doing his job. Says they went up there, talked with him, and things have been worked out. Said it was never that big of a deal. The radio host asked him “so the card is still on, right?” and Dana pauses like he was taken a back from the question and said “yea, of course.” The pause made it sound like he didn’t see why the radio host thought the card was ever in jeopardy.

-Scott Coker – Says he likes compe ion, not dumb compe ion and that is why he likes Coker. He said Coker has never said a bad thing about him or his business and he also has no bad things to say about Coker. Dana said he gets pissed when people jump in this to make quick money and slander his business, and then put on that could literally ruin MMA’s success. He says when dumb compe ion like that does challenge the UFC to a fight the UFC will go until someone wins and the other guy loses.

-Station Casino’s debt situation - Says its not a big deal and has no impact on the UFC, says it never has. Says the Fer ty Bros only have 20% ownership in Station.

-Vasoline, GSP/BJ - Says in no way shape or form did GSP cheat, but his corner man did apply vasoline and that is illegal. He says the cornerman knew what he was doing too. Says GSP would have won regardless though. To sum – yes vasoline was applied and this is illegal, but GSP had no role in it…

-Fedor: says whenever Fedor and his people want to talk he is ready. Says he wants to meet Fedor and that he would get an immediate le shot.

-The forums: says “I love it, I get on there and read them” Says he doesn’t like some interenet websites, but loves the forum and the fan dedication. Says he gets on them and does read them. Says there are smart things, dumb things, and funny things on forums.

-UFC 100 - Says they have a really good card planned, says people will be excited, but doesn’t share much else.

-Machida’s forthcoming le shot - Says Machida is getting comfortable in the UFC. Says he is going through the same process that Hughes, Rashad, Liddell, and Couture all went through… basically getting used to the UFC and getting comfortable and once that happens they really start to fight their best. Says his shot is coming soon, and Rashad/Machida would be a great fight.
