Yeah - these people simply care about taxes. Its not about being butt hurt your side lost the election.
What happens when you speak out against the Bush administrations spending at a tea party?
Damn him!!
Yeah - these people simply care about taxes. Its not about being butt hurt your side lost the election.
... but it's bi-partisan... not a bunch of obama haters... geez.
were they saying "boooo" or "buuuush?"
I'm curious as to why people are so bothered by these tea parties.
So a group of people are getting together to about the govt. If you disagree with them, just don't go.
Was there any violence? Did they interfere with local businesses?
Bothered? A few maybe. I see more curiosity and bemusement. It's a novelty.
The libs are bothered because they're scared to death. That's why they're downplaying them and saying they're irrelevant and making fun of the protestors.
I went to the Tea Party in Fort Worth and it was great! The people were passionate and fired up - and the speakers told the crowd that it couldn't just end last night. They told the crowd they needed to get involved in local politics and to keep up the fight.
I liked the signs - one said "You can't fix stupid, but you can vote them out!" A college student had one that said "You're spending the money I haven't even earned yet".
There were about 5,000 people there - it was a good crowd.
You mean 15,000.
I appreciate that everyone came out to -- but now what?
I was in Fort Worth - it was about 5,000. As for what comes next - I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I really hope this is the start of a great movement to take back our country from those who seek to spend us into collapse. I hope we see the fruits of this movement in 2010 - I hope a lot of bums in Congress are tossed into the unemployment line!
It's a joke, Neil.
I imagine most of the attendees will vote for the same Republicans who never did anything about spending when they had complete control of the federal government. As for what comes next - I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I really hope this is the start of a great movement to take back our country from those who seek to spend us into collapse. Nancy Pelosi just never learns. Why can't she just leave well alone?
What federal expenditures are you prepared to do without?
And are you going to vote out your own representative?
There's that as well. It's amazing how often we hear about 'throwing the bums out' of Congress yet how often those 'bums' return to DC after every federal election.
My representative is Joe Barton - and he led the republican revolt against the stimulus bill and the budget. Tarrant county is the most republican county in Texas - so I'm in a good place!
But yes - if my representative didn't stand up against this outrageous, wasteful spending, I'd happily vote him/her out!
Which expenditures are "outrageous" and "wasteful"?
I've got no problem with these tea bag protests. It is the American way!! Speak out!! Yes you can!!!
Money to study pig manure or the DNA of catfish. Money to save the habitat of a marsh mouse, anything having to do with combating global climate change, paying for abortions in Africa... those are just a few I can think of off the top of my head.
I also think we should abolish the Department of Education and the Energy Department - useless agencies! Repeal the wage increase for congress.
Considering there were 9,000 earmarks - I think it's safe to say there was a lot of outrageous and wasteful spending!
why?
are you against study in general?or the DNA of catfish.
i bet your cool at party's.Money to save the habitat of a marsh mouse, anything having to do with combating global climate change, paying for abortions in Africa... those are just a few I can think of off the top of my head.
wtf?I also think we should abolish the Department of Education and the Energy Department - useless agencies! Repeal the wage increase for congress.
you think this is new?Considering there were 9,000 earmarks - I think it's safe to say there was a lot of outrageous and wasteful spending!
That's a drop in the federal budget. How about defense, SS, and Medicare?
Pig manure in the context of industrial farming -- and relatedly, the resistance of pathogens to antibiotics -- may relate significantly to human health. I'm not so sure you're right to pick on pig studies as wasteful, Crookshanks. And why the continent of Africa should be singled out for killing the unborn is past me, but that's you too.
I find it odd that you dismiss counter-global warming measures out of hand and that you want to go pick on the marsh mouse, but have at. That's your taste.
I agree. Congress ought to have a vote on that. The DOE and Education will be surprised to hear they are no longer needed.
I like to leave my christmas lights on on my front porch all year long.
Agree strongly with MB. There are much bigger fish to fry.
People always say - It's a drop in the bucket - well, a drop here and a drop there and pretty soon you have a gallon!
As far as SS, defense and Medicare: Social Security is a joke. People like Ted Kennedy and John McCain and other wealthy people should not be eligible for Social Security. And it's too easy to get a disability designation.
Medicare is even a bigger mess than SS! The fraud, waste and abuse of the system is staggering. A REAL investigation and audit of the system would reveal many areas where costs could be cut.
Defense - One of the items specifically mentioned in the Cons ution that is the responsibility of the Federal Government is defense. So I think that should be a high priority in the budget. But I also know there is a lot of fraud and waste in government contracts - so that needs to be carefully looked at also.
Should the defense budget be $500 bil+ per annum? As the left never seems to tire of social spending, the "right", as it were in this country, at best is uninterested in really questioning that part of the budget, save for McCain's annual pork hunt.
How many are willing to have actual cuts in their Social Security and Medicare payments?
