Before I forget, whoever came up with the idea of using tea bags as the symbol of protesting government largesse either had a wicked sense of humor or is probably nearing time to draw on their non-socialist SS and Medicare handouts.

The truth about the DHS report never states that all vets, or right wingers should be viewed with su ion. Why do you continue to falsely promote that it was meant for all conservatives?
It was the generality of the statements they made. It seems people who actually believe in the cons ution are a threat to them. It can easily be taken that way.

The point is that most of the people who are trying to make hay about are doing it in a way that is intellectually dishonest. Anyone who promotes a falsehood loses credibiltiy from the beginnign. Those who are trying to make it seem as though this was an attack on all right wingers isn't being very honest.

We get the point. Most right wingers hate Obama.. I believe in the cons ution. I also believe that the govt should be protecting our country from external and internal foes alike.

    OK, I understand.

You don't mind implementing social policies because we are not a socialist nation. At the rate we are going, especially with the acceleration this administration and congress has brought, how long until we are a socialist nation?

If we don't stop the trend, we will be their soon!
I'm perfectly fine with an argument about WHICH socialist policies are good, which are bad, and which need to be fixed. I also wouldn't mind a category of "it sucks, but there's a good reason for it".

Which policies do you think are which?

Probably not because I haven't been a regular participant in here for some time. What I've learned is that the distribution of nuts across the ideological spectrum is quite uniform.

edit: uniform seems more appropriate than normal.
I'd say that's probably the case, but of course I'm biased to think that the Republicans have a few more. Or, at least, the group OUT of power tends to have the LOUDEST crazy voices.

What cons utes a "socialist nation"? Further, it seems that the payments plenty of "conservatives" stand to receive from Social Security and Medicare escape the definition of socialism. Not to mention that federal expenditures and loans to large, private financial services and manufacturing companies seem to escape that definition.

Well, sure. It's an opportunity for them to lay claim to power within the party or movement as the party reacts to an electoral loss.

That's my whole point. A "socialist" nation isn't well defined. Some readily spring to mind, like China and Venezuela, where the country controls a great majority of production/manufacturing and there are significant roadblocks to creation of a business. But the USA doesn't fall under that blanket.

Then there are some European countries who could be considered socialist because there are a great majority of social programs, and the taxation to pay for them is high relative to ours. But the USA, AFAIK, doesn't have nearly as high or numerous taxes as some European countries.

I just wish that people who are saying our nation is becoming 'socialist' would explain what they meant, and tell me when we'll have 'crossed the line'.

Well, we have a mixed economy and it's been that way for quite a while. The debate is really about should there be greater governmental intrusion or not, and in what way. Of course, the prior, allegedly "conservative" Republican presidential administration ran through the most massive increase in a socialist government program since the 1960s and that didn't seem to disturb many 'anti-socialists' in this country.

What cloud of justification are you hiding behind ? Lest you forget that the Libs hero William Jefferson and what he "did" with the debt... correct your history lesson...

No president has ever spent like this one... TRILLIONS of dollars.. the National debt is off the charts with this one and we haven't even begun to touch some of the "Promises" he made. Don't kid yourself.
I cant say I am like others in that I enjoy schooling others in a conversation. I see explaining the finer details of past spending an excercise in futility. Youre not going to acknowledge any culpability that lay at the feet of those you trust with leadership.

Youre a loyalist. Thats ok, it really is. But I wont waste my time or yours trying to give allllll the reasons that some President, at some point, would come to reign over the semi-collapse of our financial system.

I said before the election, "...if I were Obama/McCain, I'd sit these next 4 years out." I meant it then, I really mean it now.

Obama isnt the savior, he isnt many things. But hes trying to make decisions that dont destroy the American way of life. It isnt easy and there is no good solution on the table that doesnt sacrifice large portions of the population to the meat-grinder (so to speak).

I dont agree with Obama...I lean more toward inistability. But, we all stand here and pretend to know (ok, maybe a few really know) what the collapse of the insurance and banking system looks like. When trillions of dollars in exposure spread across entire portions of the population, from rich to poor, collectively declares bankruptcy. All in a world market that uses your money as a standard of trade.

Think about it, and dont come with some weak-ass bull about Obama being solely responsible for any of this (so far). Or that Clinton is solely responsible. Or Pelosi, or whomever. By mid this year, the policies he's ins uted in the first days of his Presidency will start to show their effect, at least start to indicate.

Can you keep your hammer from his palms for that long?

One could argue that the true socialists are the M.E. Oil Oligarchies, which we financially support.....

You're dating yourself, Dan, plus that's a bad call IMO. Oil sheiks are not calling the shots, and the petrodollar may not be long for this world.

Hahahah... and where were you when the right wing enacted the Patriot Act? How about the "Free Speech Zones"?

What did GWB have to say? "I just want you to know that, when we talk about war, we're really talking about peace."

And Obama is Orwellian? Shut the up, you mindless hack, and remove the giant 2X4 from thine own eye before checking my splinters out.
My my your all in a huff aren't ya. not only did the right wing vote for the patriot act alot of democrats did too. Now let's see the patriot act for good or bad was voted on in congress in regards to an attack by Saudi nationals living in the U.S on visas, who drove two airplanes into the twin towers killing thousands and terrorizing New York and indeed the whole country, another plane driven into the Pentagon killing more, and an attempt to crash a third.
Obama's watch list was released a few days before a group of American citizens who happened to be political opponents of the Federal goverment, and the current adminsitration, gathered together to exercize their CONS UTIONAL rights to peacefull assembly and free speech(I've heard no reports of violence have you)
Yes your right, the parallels are uncanny. How thick of me to have missed them.

You're either a self-admitted violent right wing extremist or an idiot who can't read.
