Nets looking to move Yi Jianlian

Coming off a season when he was demoted from the Nets' starting lineup to the bench because of his lack of production, Yi Jianlian might have played his final game in New Jersey.
Team sources say the Nets are interested in trying to deal the 7-foot small forward they acquired from Milwaukee last summer for Richard Jefferson. "They're talking about moving him,'' said a source.
Yi's struggles to improve his defense, rebounding and passing under Lawrence Frank didn't sit well with GM Kiki Vandeweghe, who engineered the deal with the Bucks. Yi averaged 8.6 points and 5.3 rebounds in 23 minutes per game, but was often privately criticized for looking only to shoot.
Meanwhile, in an effort to further save money, one plan has the Nets cutting their assistant coaches' salaries from $1 million combined to only $500,000.

Fits the Horry role better than Bonner does, has some more athleticism, and is coachable. I would definitely be willing to trade someone on our roster for him. Bowen works, and whoever else we sign for some min contracts work.

Eh...I don't know. I have just about had a belly full of soft 7 footers.
the question is do we want to gamble?
we know he has potential, but he is not a spurs type of player.
Jianlian will earn over $3 million next season with a team option of over $4 million for the 2010-11 season. I wonder if a team will be tempted to trade for him because of the team option.
He is better than Bonner, how?
More potential, I guess.
There was a lot of talk about this guy a couple years back, but I haven't heard much of anything lately. Has anyone watched him since he came to NJ?
He doesn't necessarily have to play the four. He can play the 3 and play spot minutes at the four for something like small ball. The key word here is versatility. Plus the guy is young.
He can post, he can face up in the post. He can drive from the wing, and he can shoot from just about most places. Plus this guy can rebound.
He was playing rather well before he went down with an injury this year. Of course one would like for him to increase his strength and overall intensity, but those things can be worked on. His contract isn't bad really, plus if he plays the three, and we add some sort of big (Maybe Ian), we're automatically a better rebounding team. I really have no problem with this unless he were to play only at the four, or mainly at the four. I'd like to see him play the three, and receive the ball around the elbows or extended high post offensively.

Lets do some NBA math, thats 6'10-11" in the real world. Relatively young (21, 22 or as some would want to claim 25) so could put on some weight. That is a nice oversized SF in him.
No way. Soft as e and a choker to boot.
He's had some good games against playoff teams. I wouldn't dismiss him out of hand if the price was right.
This. Much like Bargnani, he has shown it in flashes. The tools are there to be what he is: an athletic, tall, offensive player.
C - Gooden
PF - Duncan
SF - Jianlian
That is if we can resign Gooden. That would also be one of a front court, but how is Jianlian on D?
He wasn't happy when happy when Bucks have drafted him because he didn't want to play in Milwaukee.
He wasn't happy with Nets this year because he didn't get enough playing time.
He doesn't sound like Spurs material.
I don't think he's very good on D. Basically he's been an offensive player only.
Good point. The last thing we need is some malcontent that thinks he is better than he is. Pass.
To be honest, being on a losing team can eat at certain players. That might be the reason he was upset at a lack of playing time on a non-playoff team.
he's got a nice smooth form while shooting. but he can't just shoot 3's and jumpers all the time. id like to see him add some muscle and get a post game. and definatly work on his defense.
