SAN ANTONIO -- Hurricane Ivan chased the New Orleans Saints out of Louisiana and into San Antonio for the next few days.

Players, coaching staff and family members arrived in the Alamo City overnight on a charter flight from the Big Easy. They will be staying at the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel until Friday while the team prepares to face the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

The Saints are among more than 1 million people urged to get out of harm's way as Ivan spins toward the Gulf Coast with 140 mph winds.

The Saints will practice at Alamo Stadium from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. A light workout is also scheduled for Friday. The team has also reserved the ballroom at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in case the team wants to move the workouts indoors.

The practices will not be open to the public.

Alamodome officials were contacted by the Saints, but the facility is not available because new artificial turf is being installed.

Saints spokesman Greg Bensel said the team selected San Antonio as refuge because the city has taken "good care of us" in the past. The Saints have played preseason games in the Alamodome in years past.
