France and Italy teams so far this summer have been awful. If they did qualify and played like that in Poland at the Eurobasket they will not even advance past the group stage.
Italy won in Finland 77-75. Finland shoot only 5/25 from 3 point land.
So, next game against Italy on Friday is damn important:
- If France NT win they are qualified.
- If they lost by more than 3, they are basically eliminated.
The bad news of the day is that Batum has an injured shoulder. If he can't play against Italy, it will be a huge loss.

Yeah, 5/25... I guess italians watched France-Finland...
Too bad Finland couldn't win. Even with a defeat vs Italy friday, A less than a 10 points loss in Finland would had been enough for France to be qualified for the finale...
Expect Tony to have a great game vs Italy if he's physically ok. He always has against them. They're what New York was to Jordan to him.
Latest news says Batum should be cleared for training by wenesday.
Against Latvia, Russia (without Kirilenko) and Germany (without Nowitzki?) anyone stands a chance. At least, it's not the group C in lieu of England (poor guys...).
[QUOTE=Bruno;3622306]I also like what Collet says and what he does as a coach.
QUOTE]
Me too. He was really calm and realistic during the Parkergate, understanding spurs position (it was also a bit diplomatic).
His tactical choices during games are also rather effective, specially after time-outs.
And he wants the ball to live and to be shared. It will be interesting to see what TP's return will do.
We will see but I think that Batum will have a shoulder surgery and be out for the rest of the summer.
He started to have troubles with his right shoulder last year. Rest obviously wasn't enough to solve them so I can see Blazers deciding to do a surgery to fix his shoulder.
question for french posters not living in France:
is tv5 broadcasting the french NT games?
I'll be in India friday and i don't want to miss the game.
No way in ! tv5 broadcasting basketball ?eventually a final of the olympics but event that I'm not sure
AFAIK, tv5 broadcast "France television" programs. These games are shown on "France television" channel so I doubt they will be on tv5.
BTW, some interviews made Wednesday (in French):

from l'Equipe, today.
apparently, Batum should be OK, no surgery. He has this injury for 5 months and has played through it, with more pain, for Portland. right now, he's fine, with no pain, but will have to do something about that (rest and musculation for this shoulder). Portland has received all the informations about Batum's health and has not answer anything right now.

Today's interview:
http://www.pau-orthez.com/news.php?newsid=937
Ian will be inactive for tomorrow game. He hasn't shown during practice that he was better than the other bigmen and he could leave the NT soon.
It doesn't look good at all for his future with Spurs. French NT bigmen (Petro, Traoré and Koffi) are far from great and Ian wasn't able to be better than them. Spurs bigmen are significantly better than that. If Ian comes in training camp at that level, he will end up on the inactive list or will be dumped in a trade.
pretty rare to hear a coach being so frank, straight about a player
journalist : "will you put the same players ?"
coach: "yes"
j: "no mahinmi ?"
c: "no"
j: "why ?"
c: "he didn't show us he could bring us something more"
j " he will leave ?"
c: "we will have to discuss about it today"
pretty harsh and unexpected. our bigs are rather bad as you said.
Ehh...the FNT has made some questionable personnel decisions seemingly before. I would not read too much into it. Not to mention Ian is still recovering and getting back into shape.
Some players play much better against better compe ion as well, and I have a feeling that Ian is one of those guys from watching him play a few times.
Anybody knows which channel is broadcasting the game tonight?
Still Sport+ or luckily one of France Télévision channels?
Maybe for some reason Ian isn't that motivated to play for the NT? But then, why even join in the first place. I'd have thought he would welcome the playing time. Well, he'd better come prepared for training camp.
as I tried to point out some weeks ago, Ian will become a pretty expensive "project" in a few weeks, when the Spurs need to decide if they pick the option for the 2010-11 season. assuming the Spurs will also be tax payers in 2010-11, Ian will cost them about 3.6 million for that season. and if they don't pick the option, it means they have given up on him.
best case for Spurs (and for Ian) could be a dump trade this summer, to a young and non tax payer team. with the Spurs he will neither get the chance, nor the minutes.
(if Tiago in fact comes in 2010, this will make it even worse for Ian in the 2010-11 season)
currently Rockets could be a better place. or Kings. or Warriors. (Rockets and Warriors hold TEs that work. the TE plus a 2nd rounder?). it would also clear a roster spot and in the current situation I would prefer Hairston and Williams with the Spurs.
is there going to be a link for the game today?
I disagree.
Ian right now has no trade value at all. the best to do with him is to give him a chance during the training camp.
If he is good, Spurs pick his option for 10-11 and they keep him.
If he is bad, Spurs don't pick his option and they trade him (like they did with Udrih) before the trade deadline to save some luxury tax money.
There will likely have link(s) that will be posted just before the game.
Game start at 1pm CST (8pm CET).
Sucks to hear about Ian, but it could just be that the NT wants to stay with the bigs that have been there since the beginning. Hopefully theres some sort of positive spin on this.
seems to be negative news for Ian. Well, he still has a chance...but his prospects do seem to be dimming.
Although Ian being a serviceable big would have considerably helped us for the future, he was not necessary in the short term. However, it does put more pressure on the franchise to either land splitter or to get another good, young big in the next 2 years.
Blair is part of that puzzle, but not the solution, even if he becomes one of the future top 3 rotation bigs, we need another young big for when duncan retires.
