Ultimately these comparisons of Spanoulis with NBA players are silly. He has chosen, for reasons known only to himself, to be content with playing in the Euroleague, the second best club league in the world. He may even be the best player in the second best league. So what? It's like comparing the minor league home run king to Albert Pujols.

And I don't care if averages 50 pts a game in some offseason exhibition tournament between teams that play together a few weeks a year. It proves nothing about where he stands relative to the best players in the world. If he wants to be considered among the best, he has to compete against the best day in and day out for a period of years. You can't do that playing 40-50 games a year against a lower level of compe ion.

Spanoulis obviously has enough talent to play in the NBA. Whether he would be a star, a rotation player, or a scrub is impossible to know with any certainty. The only thing we do know for sure is that he was scrub the first time he played in the NBA. Nothing he does in second level compe ion can ever change that. To change that he has to step up and return to the NBA.

Spanoulis is not a true PG. Nothing similar to Nash's style. He is more of a Monta Ellis type of player.

Monta Ellis? WTF? No way. Spanoulis can create his own shot in half court against any defense and any player. He is way better penetartor and scorer than Ellis. And he is way, way, way better passer and pick and roll player than him. Not to mention 10 times better in defense.

These snapshots from these offseason exhibition games will prove nothing. Spanoulis can only prove he is among the best guards in the world by playing against them in the world's best league. Until then it is all idle speculation.

Even in the context of this tournament, the France-Greece game in the qualifying round is likely to be relatively meaningless as both teams will probably have already secured a spot in quarterfinals. So you're covered either way. If Spanoulis plays well, you'll be spewing your typical crap. If he plays poorly, you'll tell us that Greece didn't care about the game because they were already in the quarters.

As I've said before, Spanoulis has the talent to play in the NBA. If he wants to erase his existing record as an NBA failure, he'll have to return to the NBA to do it. He can win Euroleague championships and MVPs and lead Greece to European championships and he will still be an NBA failure until he actually succeeds in the NBA. This is a self-evident truth and cannot be refuted by any youtube video clips or collection of statistics from lower level compe ions.
