Guess what CD, I am a lawyer. I assume you are not?

It's clear you have a different opinion, and that's you're right. I'm not going to bash you for it. My opinion is different. I've already viewed the ridiculous posts in the Gates fiasco, and I have no desire to engage in beating a dead horse argument over and over ad nauseum...
    A c'mon...it's fun.

I'm of the opinion no one's asked the question.
Great, so in the meantime you will just make up.

You didn't say I believe. You stated it as fact. That's making up.
    My apologies. "I believe."

Because it's not been my experience after being involved in law enforcement my entire career.
So you have several examples of cops volunteering to cir scribe their own arrest powers. Let me know about those.

All asked and answered. Until the question is asked of the arresting officer, you've got nothing but speculation.
I believe he has desribed the actions of Gates that got him arrested. I believe he or one of the other six cops (I believe that's the number) or one of the witnesses would have said if Gates had done anything more serious. Not one of them has.

Exactly, so it's surprising you can't be more specific -- but not so surprising at the same time.

There, that wasn't hard, was it?

I'm not sure what your asking for here. Either a person commits a crime or they don't. Either the officer arrests them or they don't. Sticking up for an officer on one arrest isn't any indication of future encounters. Saying you believe you wouldn't have made the arrest doesn't mean the officer who did was wrong.

It's not a club, it's a profession. I've seen officers pull others aside and tell them, flat out, I don't think you have reason to cuff him. There's absolutely no indication anyone at the scene of this incident had any problem with Professor Gates being arrested. Except, of course, Gates.

I believe you're wrong. Without a criminal complaint, you have no idea of the totality of Gates' actions that the officer believed warranted the arrest. What you have is an incident report -- about a burglary in progress -- that resulted in an arrest for disorderly conduct.

I wonder who wanted to throw the first punch? I thought it was cool that the cop stood his ground and didn't apologize. Good for him. I wonder how Gates feels about being a pawn in this whole episode being a martyr for racism? Seriously, this story only made news because Gates is black. No .

When will the minorities and the guilt stricken whites ever let their prejudices go?

    I've made nothing up.
It's the only thing supporting your argument.

I'm not sure what your asking for here. Either a person commits a crime or they don't. Either the officer arrests them or they don't.
Either they are able to arrest them or they aren't.
Sticking up for an officer on one arrest isn't any indication of future encounters.
Desiring to keep the arrest power in the same situation is.
Saying you believe you wouldn't have made the arrest doesn't mean the officer who did was wrong.
Sure. I never said that was the case.

It's not a club, it's a profession. I've seen officers pull others aside and tell them, flat out, I don't think you have reason to cuff him. There's absolutely no indication anyone at the scene of this incident had any problem with Professor Gates being arrested. Except, of course, Gates.
I can believe they all wanted him to shut up and they all wanted to be able to throw someone in jail for doing what Gates did.

I believe you're wrong. Without a criminal complaint, you have no idea of the totality of Gates' actions that the officer believed warranted the arrest.
I believe I do have a good idea why he was arrested.
What you have is an incident report -- about a burglary in progress -- that resulted in an arrest for disorderly conduct.
I also have myriad interviews where witnesses never said Gates did anything more than yelling from his porch. In a case that reached this profile, I firmly believe that had Gates done anything worse than was already said, it would have come out already.

Obama should be thankful for white guilt because if it didn't exist, he wouldn't be president right now. But seriously, am I the only one that wanted to see a fight at this thing?

I wonder who wanted to throw the first punch?
It doesn't sound like Sgt. Crowley ever lost his composure.

I thought it was cool that the cop stood his ground and didn't apologize. Good for him. I wonder how Gates feels about being a pawn in this whole episode being a martyr for racism? Seriously, this story only made news because Gates is black. If he had been a cracker, no one would have given a . So in a way, that's racist. People only care because Gates is black.
I don't believe that's exactly true. It only made news because Professor Gates made an issue of his own race and, unjustifiably, started accusing a police officer -- responding to check the welfare of his property -- of engaging in racial profiling. The man called attention to himself.

President Obama sent it nationwide with his stupid remark in the Press Conference.

It's the same thing with the Sotomayor confirmation, if she had been a white woman, no would have given a . And people over how it's a huge accomplishment that she's Latino and a supreme court judge. That means that they are saying that her race is a disadvantage and obstacle. That should be an insult toward Latinos.
On the other side, she's spent a good portion of her career saying Latinos are better than whites and engaging in racist organizations.

I would say that if she had been a white woman and made some of the statements (inserting white for latino) that Sotomayor or had belonged to exclusive/activist organizations like Sotomayor, it would have been a hot topic.

I doubt a similarly tempered white woman wouldn't stand a chance...Wait, I'm sorry, a similarly tempered white CONSERVATIVE woman wouldn't stand a chance of making the court. I mean, ACLU Queen Ruth Bader Ginsburg made it, after all.

There was no indication anyone was thinking of punching anything.
I wonder how Gates feels about being a pawn in this whole episode being a martyr for racism?
I think he feels pretty good. He's getting a lot of attention and a bunch of white people are confirming his su ions about them.
Seriously, this story only made news because Gates is black. If he had been a cracker, no one would have given a .
Agreed, but given the facts as they now stand, I would have thought the jailing unnecessary no matter what the person's race or political beliefs
So in a way, that's racist. People only care because Gates is black.
    Huh?
It's the same thing with the Sotomayor confirmation, if she had been a white woman, no would have given a .
They would still give a .

No, one does not overcome being a member of a race.

I never posted in the gates/fiasco thread. That's the one I was referring to in my post. Frankly, this Gates case bores me, and I don't find it interesting in the slightest. And, since I can't get to sleep, I'm surfing ST threads now.

So you can't be specific. That's ok, but issues of the law can get that way.
I took that as an insult. Of course, I also found it ironic considering my vocation.

It involved a moral issue never a legal one. There are no legal issues involved, dumb ass.
