It's a Cali thing. The best I have ever had is at a fish market near the aircraft carrier in San Diego (can't remember the name of the place). You can find it at Italian places and seafood places all over California though. I've never seen it in Texas, but then again I don't eat much seafood in Texas neither, so I haven't really looked for it there.

It usually has some shrimp in it too, and often scallops.
Mussels cooked in white wine and garlic are by far one of my favorite foods, though a lot of my friends are grossed out by them.

There have been only two types of seafood I've declined: Sea Urchin and raw jumbo prawns. In Italy, they tear the heads of the prawns and suck the meat out. That's their sushi.

Same dish, but at the end throw in half cooked spaghettis and allow them to fully cook witht the mussels (careful not to overcook the pasta!!!).
