Sorry for the new thread, but I couldn't find the old one. Was it ever settled whether the back-to-back double-OT victories was a record? I know you guys said the Grizzlies lost the second one in 1999, but on nba.com today in the preview for tonight's game, it still said it hadn't been done since 1999, so I'm assuming that the folks at nba.com still think that Vancouver did it before. What's the deal? Record or no record?

    Record.

The two threads it was discussed in are the one started by me about double OT's and the Buck Harvey article about the Spurs winning a "minor". Both are on the 1st page of the forum.

The San Antonio Spurs' double-overtime victory over the Golden State Warriors on Sunday night made history.

With the 136-134 win, the Spurs became the first team in NBA history to win multiple overtime games on back-to-back nights. The last time an NBA team even played multiple overtime games on consecutive dates was in 1999. The Vancouver Grizzlies defeated the Clippers in double overtime on February 16, 1999, but fell to the Boston Celtics in triple overtime 131-129 on the following night.

Right, I would have thought that something quasi-official like nba.com would at least check in to it.

I think that it was printed in the AP recap on Sunday night incorrectly, and then everyone copied it from there. Not that that's an excuse for not fact-checking. But I assume that's what happened.

Something else we found out...the Spurs and the Grizz are the only two teams to ever play in back to back mutiple OT games...

And FWDT pointed out...Tony Massenburg played in every one of the back to back double OT games. He's the king of the back to back double OT.

That should convince anyone that doesn't want him on the playoff roster to add him!!!

I thought I saw info that the Lakers played back-to-back 3OT games back in 1961 when they were in Minnesota.

I guess I should have read the NBA article.

The Minneapolis Lakers also had back-to-back triple overtime games during the 1951-52 season when they lost to the Philadelphia Warriors in triple overtime, 105-103, and then won a triple overtime the next day against the Baltimore Bullets, 96-90.
