You already read my "confession". I don't watch ASpurs; I'm just #boxscoresaint, myself! The last I saw of Cady was summer league. But his play at that time didn't match his ASpurs box scores in any way, shape or form - even his "regressions" I just hope he has a legit chance of becoming the "apprentice" next season in San Antonio!
His performances I have actually seen have been pretty inconsistent. He shows flashes of good rebounding, defense and shooting but just as much wandering around lost. It may be a case of overthinking the system that rookies go through -- but last night was the Hardaway Jr. show and not much of a knock on any of the other players, who overall had solid games more as role players.

IMO Cady is doing fine as the project he is. The NBA potential is still there.

Thanks for sharing your observations. I kind of expected it was the THJ show last night.

As for Cady, I would guess that you also watched SL games, too. I thought of him as an athlete who would probably never translate his athletic ability into basketball skills. So, seeing his box score - especially his 3 point shooting has really peaked my interest.

Actually less than that, behind bench for $40.
Damn I wish I was still in SA, I'd have driven up for that. Good for Boban and Simmons for being there.

There were over 7000 at the ATT Center. It was a really good time. I expect they will do it again next season.

The Hawks continued to use the NBA Development League to get playing time for young players with the assignment of Edy Tavares on Wednesday. The rookie center will play for the Austin, via the flexible assignment rule, tonight in a game against the Santa Cruz. Tim Hardaway Jr. is also currently on assignment with Austin.

    Getting crowded.

I hope all the assignees are recalled soon so the regular players can get maximum exposure at the showcase.

Yeah, it's kinda annoying that Atlanta is taking multiple spots for the Toros, because you know they're going to get minutes over guys there Spurs are trying to develop. The Spurs should be compensated a little at least. They're paying to host another team's players.

I'm all for the goodwill between teams, but you'd think they could just as easily spend some time in Delaware as in Austin.

My understanding is that the Spurs have to agree to these assignments from other teams and are under no obligation to play them any particular number of minutes.. Is that correct?

Yes, but I'm sure any wishes for PT from the assigning team will be accommodated. Hardaway came off the bench last night which could also be by design. It will be interesting to see what they do with him tonight. Edy usually starts.

I'm just saying, the Spurs don't owe the Hawks anything, especially after taking the bare minimum for Splitter.

I'd say we owe them at least a couple of D-League assignments all things considered.

Yeah, the Spurs could refuse at any time and leave the Hawks scrounging. Howevah, since the Spurs will probably only be assigning one player from here on out, there will be two slots open for Atlanta or Chicago or whoever to use. I'm really surprised Atlanta isn't further along in getting its own D-League team. Chicago is all set to go next season.

Ouch, Tavares looks so damn underwhelming in that stat sheets, a no name out of no where pick up by the Spurs like Ndoye was having a better night than him.

Lalanne with a good shooting night. 4-5 from 3. Hope he keeps it up.

In the 4th Quarter, Lalanne scored 8 straight points. He needed to be subbed out to cool him off!

Orlando Johnson is my pick for a callup.

Yeah nice box score for Cady and Orlando. I have been following them with high hopes. For what it is worth, I stumbled across a blog a few weeks back that rated D-league players on a weekly basis. On the flip side looks like Deshaun should have stayed in Spain.

It does seem like trading for McCallum is a mistake unless the Spurs re-sign him on a cheap, long-term deal. He just isn't standing out enough for me to feel he's a bona-fide NBA talent. They could have found a better guy in a call-up.

    Still better than Jimmer though.

I watched thatgame on you-tube last night. It was a bad game. Tim Hardaway jr jacked up a few threes and not make them. That Orlando Johnson doesn't seems to be making sound decisions. I'm not impressed. Cady Lalane can shoot threes as well as play in the paint, ok I'm a fan. Youssou Ndoye blocked two shots, so this guy seems to good defensively. Deshaun Thomas doesn't look good in this game, probably injured. Several times, three men under the rim can't get the rebound, It is ridiculous. Ray Mccallum seems like a cut above the rest, his hopping style of movements bring up the ball looks kind of weird though. The opposing team, that Tydale guy is irritating to watch, kind of no sportmanship, and that Vince Hunter is a very good player among them, so he should get called up by some teams. btw, I'm just a casual basketball fan. I seldom post, so I'm just a lurker.

    Welcome!

Thanks for the review. I like to watch the occassional dleague game too, or at least snippets of the players that intrigue me.
It is troublesome they can't rebound. I am guessing the problems were on the defensive end this game or TO. Hard to win a game with 21 TO and just 3 steals, particularly when you also shoot as a team 22% on 27 3s.

Ray is a headscratcher. I suppose he's fine for a 3rd string PG but I have been wondering what Pop has in mind for him. The real question has been all the garbage time Bonner or Butler have had that Ray could have benefited from and also if there is a foul trouble situation or injury ... who do you sub. I am guessing Pop will go to one of Anderson/Simmons, but its a risky proposition Pop has taken without Ray for long stretches, either not in uniform or in the dleague.

The way Pop treats McCallum it is as if the player has zero future and doesn't even care if he gets any playing time at all!

I speculate that despite Parker not playing the next game, we aren't going to see McCallum. He'll be lucky to showup come garbage time.

In the pecking order, McCallum is behind Butler. I don't even recall if Butler played at all last December.
