The way Pop treats McCallum it is as if the player has zero future and doesn't even care if he gets any playing time at all!

I speculate that despite Parker not playing the next game, we aren't going to see McCallum. He'll be lucky to showup come garbage time.

In the pecking order, McCallum is behind Butler. I don't even recall if Butler played at all last December.
Yes Butler did the Utah game at least. Might be some others, Milwaukee, Lakers? Strict garbage time. Ray I remember just on the Lakers game Tony sat out and this past suns game. It's been scarce for sure.

The way Pop talks about Marjanovic or doesn't play Ray, you have to wonder if Pop even bothers to have a conversation with RC before RC pulls the trigger. It is like he doesn't even know these guys.

Pop says about Marjanovic that all he knows about him is that he's tall.

With McCallum it just feels that he doesn't even want him in team! Did he talk to RC before RC brought McCallum in??

    Showcase Day One recap:

    http://upsidemotor.com/2016/01/07/d-league-showcase-santa-cruz-recap-day-one/

This was the shocker of day one. The Energy came into the Showcase on a seven-game losing streak and beat the 14-4 Spurs? Never would have called this one.

What might be even crazier is that Iowa is missing Perry Jones III, Cartier Martin and Patrick Christopher, who are all out due to injury. They only suited up eight players and two of those were on assignment from the Memphis Grizzlies. Go figure.

    [...]

Believe it or not, Harrison did not have the worst game of the night. That award went to Nick Johnson, who fouled out in just 18 minutes with six points. For a guy who most thought wouldn’t be in the D-League long, that’s not the type of performance you want with all 30 NBA clubs watching. I’m sure he will bounce back in a big way when Austin plays Erie on Friday.

Orlando Johnson was aggressive for most of the game, but it didn’t translate well as he shot 4-15 from the floor for 13 points. Draft rights player Cady Lalanne had an underwhelming game as well. I was looking for him to show more assertiveness in driving to the basket, but at this point he seems content settling for jump shots.

He is very athletic and quick on his feet. He can get by on that in the D-league, but to make it in the NBA, he still needs to work on footwork. But when I saw him in SL, I wasn't sure his raw athleticism would ever translate into actual basketball skill. He has come a long way in Austin. He reminds me of Ian Mahinmi when he first joined the Spurs.

    Pretty damned good:

I think he could be better than Baynes pretty soon. He also looked to have a decent shot out to midrange. I don't think he'd be a huge factor in today's league. But as a Reggie Evans/Birdman like player, I think that he could help out more than Boban does. This team doesn't have anyone scrappy on it.

Spurs need a quick rim defender.

Ndoye with a 11/14 game with six blocks. Just ho-humming along right now. I really hope the team picks him up. If they are serious in the market for Varejao, it means they're willing to waive someone for a big. Youssou did foul out those. What the happened to Cady in this game?

Wow, worst box score from Cady since he has been in Austin. I don't expect us to bring in a big this season. If we want a lift this season though, Varejao would get the nod. Cady is for next season. This year I would prefer a combo guard who could provide a few minutes of D without giving up too much in offense. However, I don't think that guy exists.

Cady with just a terrible shooting night. I guess it happens but damn.

If the shooting wing situation continued to be a concern I'd see us picking a SG, but even that is so uphill bc Ray is really not getting minutes and last season we picked up Reggie Williams and he was just a body, unplayable in any regular rotation situation outside garbage time... and I really think we are getting Bertans if he stays healthy for the season.

Cady has an uphill battle IMO. I don't think he's a better prospect than KA or Bertans. He's the kind of guy whose shooting really needs to be really good to get a spot and he's looking very streaky right now. Bertans is an enigma for me though bc how skinny and tough is he really? What position is he going to play and is his body going to hold up. He seems mire athletic than Anderson, but it's really the contact, the boxing out, defensive awareness and things like that which concern me. He seems unidimensional like indeed a taller Marco, but I am guessing. Cady is more sturdy. So different guys but basically the same role?

I agree, Bertans is likely a taller Marco but less accurate and of the same defensive capability.

Spurs have no choice but to develop players because as history has shown, the free agents the Spurs pick up are either close to retirement or are expensive underperforming divas.

The expensive free-agents all turn out to be underskilled talented folks without the necessary drive (see: RJ and LMA).

While cady is in a shooting slump. He does offer more than just shooting. He still had 7 rebounds and 2 block shots.

I do do wonder if he is hitting a rookie wall?

I'd like to see the Spurs reward Thomas, Ndoye and Lalanne with a short trip to the big team. Looks like these guys are working hard at their games. The only problem I see with them as future Spurs if they continue to improve is a logjam on the frontline. Especially if Bertans shows up. But when Timmy retires it would be a good problem to have.

Personally I like a duo of Boban and Ndoye, eh??
