Sod off, Jim Rome, Mike Greenberg and Reggie Miller. Schuck on this all you Americans that are pulling against the USA basketball team.
Does team USA have some shooting deficiencies? Yes. Are they sans roll players, players that are used to setting picks and doing all the dirty work, the little things that help every great team win? Yes. Is this their fault? No, it is the fault of the people that make the teams up.
This team does not need the money, the glory, and the acclaim that the other athletes in the Games need, they have all of that already. They are in Greece because they want to win a medal for their country. They are there even when a lot of other stars were affraid to go because of security worries( not unfounded) All these multimillionaires could be on some exotic beach in their Summer off, or at some exclusive Golf Resort or just at home safe and sound with their families. Are they? No, they are using up their precious time off doing what they love to do, and that is play ball.
These are scary times in the world, they were a little nervous about going to the Olympics because who knew if some bite terrorist would try to kill them or any other Americans so they can win a battle in their so-called jihad and be martyred and spend eternty with their 72 virgins in paradise. Team USA went to Greece under these dangerous cir stances, not for the money or glory, but because they felt a desire to help their country win the Gold.
We should be praising the team, not ragging on them for losing to a bunch of white no names who know how to play international ball a lot better, and have had a lot more practice and experience doing so.
I for one am proud of our players for showing the courage to go to Greece when others did not, for risking injury, for taking the time out of their well earned vacations to play for the Red White and Blue, and anyone who is not, can shove it.

This goes for the coaches too. Pop and Larry could be resting and enjoying their Summer too. I commend you men.

    Thanks Mikey.

Whottt, you know I love you man.

You need to learn a few things about me. 1. I will argue a point just for the sake of arguing. 2. A lot of what I say is tongue in cheek. 3. I would never wish harm on a fellow Spurs fan.

how any american can root against the US is beyond me.

I assume it's because if the US loses it would force the selection committe to make changes.

If the US wins the gold, will the committe still change they way they select the players? And how do they select the players? Is somebody in their pockets? If the US wins with the Gold with this team, will they stand up and say "what we do works." and be unwilling to go out on a limb and select a team based on role players and what not....

Because lets be real...no team is guaranteed a gold. Not even a US squad that is better put together, with defensive specialists, shooters, and role players. Does the selection committe have the balls to be scrutinized if they put the team together differently and the US fails to win the Gold?

Again, I thinks it's all about the dollars, and I think the committe is being paid off in one way or another.

That being said, Go Team USA, I want TD to have a Gold Medal.

I don't think anyone is rooting against the USA as they are rooting against the NBA and the players who can't look past their big fat wallets to represent their country and how they've lost the true spirit of TEAM basketball.

    Go USA!!!

actually, there are posters here who have said they were rooting against the US and not just the ones who are from other countries. They are against the NBA players playing in the olympics. I am cool with that. I am also cool with the people who have a problem with the selection process, I am one of them. Personally, I root for anyone wearing USA on their uniform, whether its hoops, track, badminton, whatever. Unlike a lot of posters here, I am not going to try to impose my belief system on others but I just don't always agree with some things. Rooting against your own country is one of them.

If Duncan wasn't on the team, I probably wouldn't care one way or the other. I don't like the current state of the game, or the way it is played in the NBA, or the way kids are learning to play it.

Maybe if teams that rely on great shooting and passing ability are shown to play a more successful brand of basketball, it would affect the NBA game positively.

I couldn't root against the USA, but I certainly won't lose any sleep if they lose.

There are many media members, and "fans" that are rooting against the USA team. They say they are not doing this , not doing that..blah blah blah...well, these guys are the STARS in the NBA, they are not players that play that type of bball as 2nd nature, it is new to them to set picks, to mix it up and get down and dirty, and also it is not their fault that they are not made up of a bunch of great outside shooters. This was not their fault, they are playing the hand that was dealt them. They are playing hard, they are trying to win, and they should be supported, nuff said.

There is no way Jim wrote that post...on close inspection there is not one single typo in that post. We have been posting on the same boards for 5 years now and he is normally incapable of posting a single sentence without a typo, much less several consecutive paragraphs...

We'll see how they do tomorrow against Spain. Should they fall you can put them right along with that 88 college squad who fell on their asses in Seoul.

Team USA as become "the team you love to see lose." Their so vunerable it's not even funny. The original dream team would whip this verison easily.

Pooh, there were 10 Hall of Famers on that team....your statement does not mean jack . That team would beat any team including every championship team ever to have played.

The 88 team was overmatched. It was college kids against seasoned pros. Not NBA pros but teams that had played together for years and players who played pro ball in Europe.

What the NBA and team USA could do is just have a team...NBDL players play together for a year against international compe ion. then bring in a handful of nba players after the season and there is your team. least you would have some with internation experience already and maybe, just maybe field a better team.
