Is it a known issue that Iphones are catching fire? My buddy just got a new phone (HTC, not evo so I am not trying to do the evo v. iphone), because his Iphone caught fire and melted. I looked online and apparently this is a growing problem. I hope they addressed this issue in the Iphone 4.
I asked my friend when his store is getting the next shipment. While technically I have more than enough money to get one today, there's no way in I'm waiting in a ing line for a phone.
Plus my rent and car payment are due within the next 2 weeks. The new gadget can wait until then. I'm in no real hurry to get it, just as long as I get it.
I had no idea the reserved line would be this long. I have work at 11 am... If I am gonna get one it has to happen in the next 25 minutes...
The store off of 1604 and 281 is dead according to my friend. He says he's just hanging out and collecting his OT.
There's gonna be alot of pissed off people with all the iPhones having those yellows spot issues...retinal display my ass...someboy at Apple gonna catch an ass whooping for this...major major black eye for the iPhone...

My boss has been in line for 4 hours now... he said the line is moving very slowly.
About those display issues, what's going to suck is having to wait a week until they restock units in order to get a replacement. Unless water got into it, Apple has been pretty good replacing stuff...
This might be harder to fix though:
Basically, looks like by bridging the antennas with your hand, you end up killing the signal.
I guess those 'bumpers' are mandatory now... lame
I've read that by using one of their sleeves (bumpers) the problem goes away since it shields the hand from the antennas. So much for THAT innovation though...
This sucks.
Despite my postings about the Evo being superior, IMO, to the iPhone, I hate seeing this. It means thousands or hundreds of thousands of people are going to have bad days/weeks, and pay good money for a product that has a serious defect.
So, while I'm pretty happy about the fact that Steve Jobs was so arrogantly talking about how the antennae in the iPhone has "never been done before by any company in the history of the Earth" and now basically has to eat his words, it annoys me that Apple would release a phone with such a defect, which is probably a little more serious than either of the Evo's issues (screen grounding/lifting), to say nothing of the yellow spot issue.
Apple is still the shot-caller in the cell phone industry right now, and the better, more complete their launches are, the more pressure it puts on other developers to do the same. We could see a massive recall of iPhones due to this, and companies like HTC and RIM are undoubtedly watching and thinking, "Well, we don't have to pull off perfect product launches either!"
Either way, this is a lose-lose for the general consumer.
Actually, the yellow spots is a normal issue that goes away after a day or two of use:
Apple is using a bonding agent called Organofunctional Silane Z-6011 to bond the layers of glass. Apparently, Apple (or more likely Foxconn) is shipping these products so quickly that the evaporation process is not complete. However, after one or two days of use, especially with the screen on, will complete the evaporation process and the yellow "blotches" will disappear. How do I know? I was involved in pitching Z-6011 to Apple.
From here
Considering it's fixable with a simple sleeve, I really don't think it's such a big of a deal. Potentially, all Apple has to do is hand out those things.
The screen issue had me more nervous, but that seems to be a non-issue too.
They're saying the sleeve is $30...I'd be pissed if I had to go out and spend even MORE money just to fix an inherent problem...Apple should send out free sleeves to it's customers...
Right. That's what I was saying. If this problem is verified, then they should ship out free sleeves.
I'm afraid that if it's a easily reproducible problem, a class action will come quickly enough, especially in California. In that case, they might not have a choice.
I'm gonna get the Iphone 4, but I'll wait until Apple gets its together
I don't understand people who sleep in front of a store to be the first to get the newest Apple stuff
I have OS4 jailbroken on my Iphone 3G, so far so good.
I think I'm buying the Iphone 4 in early August
I wouldn't ever sleep in front of a store to buy something.
A jap dude started a line since last monday... lol
another long line tomorrow for a rubber sleeve
I was reading that they were giving those away as a thank you for making the line... it's been 5 hours and boss isn't back yet
He's nuts. No way I stay that long for a freaking phone.
5 hours for a ing phone? Jesus Christ.
Well, faster than the 3GS, but not faster than the iPad. The screen is unbelievable though!
