Nono, Like I said then, and have said this thread.. I understand a lot of the hate is warranted, for the exact reason you say: counterproductive to the the "goal."

but doing it just so you can have some vindication is disgusting.. which is why I'm so "butthurt" (not) about ruff.. he does always seem to have the team's back, but hating just so you can be right? ..
I don't condone the vindication angle. I've eaten my crow on this specific topic. Obviously is a long season and if RJ makes a 180 degree turn (or like Kidd would say, a 360), you'll hear from me. But it's not vindication. I want the Spurs to win just as much as anybody else in here.

All of us called RJ out for his piss poor play last year. and the vast mjaority, myself included, dislike his contract. I think thats where ruff is confused - I am actually on his side. I am going to be ultra pissed if RJ fails again. Yet that doesn't mean I'm going to feel anything other than ultra-pissed should it happen. There should be no vindication no matter how right ruff is. RJ's failure goes hand in hand with the Spurs'.

These are "present cir stances" and it appears RJ has mentally bailed & gone right back to his old self. Not surprising, really.
One bad game for RJ, and hes already "mentally bailed & gone right back to his old self"? So what happens if RJ has a good game? Do you just flip your opinion, or just say its luck or something?

Just imagine the potential on this team if Bobby Simmons or Ime Udoka were starting at small forward...

You gotta give RJ a pass... obviously, he wasn't going to shoot 60% for the year, but this was his very first game where he looked like last season. If he keeps on adding games like this one, then you turn on the warning light.

I do want to point out what I think it's a misconception around here though. That you might not like a player in the roster doesn't mean you don't support the team. It's actually the contrary. Because you want the team to succeed, and because somebody opines that a player is counterproductive to that goal, they're simply pointing that out.
Almost everyone here has complained about a player at some point. Be it Bogans, Mason, Udoka, Mahinmi, Neal, Finley, Elson, Bonner, and obviously RJ.
I don't believe for a second that whoever does that is not a fan. I think at the end of the day they want the same as everyone else: the TEAM to win.
    Spot on.

And I think RJ will not revert to last year's form - he clearly understands his role this year and is committed to being aggressive. He'll have the odd poor game, but his added comfort and aggression this year will see him contribute.

This is not just 1 game, its a trend that's been going on for almost a month now.

    RJ's last 8 games:

    27-68, 39% FG
    9-29, 30% 3 pt shooting.

This looks a lot like his #'s from last year, but actually worse.

a thread started i don't know how long ago about how he is not worth his money, and then bringing up a game to validate that is just stupid. bringing back any topic that has been talked about as long as that was just needs to stay in the past. did you see me bumping up threads that were created 1 year ago talking about how much RJ sucked and blah blah blah because i wanted to prove those people wrong? no. why? because, i let the past be the past. create new threads, have new ideas. all this re-hashing of old threads shows a lack of intelligence and an eagerness to perform self-fellatio. i could bring up the dozens of threads in which you talked about how RMJ was destroyed by Pop and point to the fact that he's shooting like 9% in NY right now. but i don't because i don't really care to let the people who come on this board read regurgitation and witness my self-fellatio. that's not what they're here for and that's not what i'm here for. so lets start to use some imagination and create topics that are more deservging to be on the front page than this thread.

Oh, good. Another RJ thread full of extremist, absolutist, obsessively negative bull .

Question: When are we going to move on?

The deed is done, the pickings were slim
It's not your money, you're not in the gym
We were never getting LeBron instead
Did we really need another RJ thread?

You, sir, are a realist. I don't think Spurs fans take to kindly to your type 'round here.

Here we are in late March...with no Parker or Manu...and still can give the Spurs a damn thing. , if he doesn't make that late three he winds up with more fouls than points.

He's not playing with near the energy he was in November and December. Back then he was just playing ball and not thinking. Now he back to being the same damn player he was a year ago.

I've been very patient with this thread. He has has countless bad performances where I could have bumped it an lol'd...but what I saw early in the year gave me a glimmer of hope so I showed restraint. Now we are 8 games from the post season and he is right back to square one.

His athleticism is declining, but he's still an above average athlete, as far as straight line running and jumping. He's never had great lateral quickness, but that never stopped him from getting the line in the past. Right now, he's strictly a spot up shooter. Late last season, he at least focused on rebounding. Now, that's not even there consistently. He might as well be 37 year old Finley at this point, right down to the averages.

Even tonight, a game where he should have taken double digit shots and got to the line at least six times, he was content to camp out in the corner. They could have given some run of the mill, inexpensive type a one-two year contract to do this.

I got completely pilloried for saying that late in the offseason.

His early season form was superb, I just wish he'd kept it up. Even if he did he's not worth 10m/yr.

Anyway, let's hope for a miracle reversion to some sort of real contribution. Sadly, I think Pop has ins utionalised him within the system to the point that he's forgotten how to play creative basketball.

you're missing the point - the Spurs were able to stay underneath the salary cap with RJ's deal. It was the best the Spurs could do - there was no one else available. Stop being negative - the Spurs have the best record in the league.

in all truth, I'm really hoping Bonner and Jefferson redeem themselves somehow or someway to make their signings worthwhile enough that the FO didn't complete crap their pants in getting Timmy one more ring.

At this point, it doesn't matter what Bonner or Jefferson make - the reality is that their re-signings ultimately (as it looks today) did not increase the Spurs chances to win.

I do have to give you credit, you were far more patient than the RJ fanclubbers dared to be. Seemed like early in the season before a month had even passed they were dancing about with their clothes off, dropping 'lols' and taunting like crazy.
