I think the writers are contrasting where the two alpha dogs currently stand. Rick hesitated before finally burying the machete in the prisoner's head, even though it was essentially a foregone conclusion. Meanwhile, the Governor has an aquarium of vanquished heads in his room Futurama-style.
Maybe they're saying if Rick and the Governor were to face off today, Rick wouldn't come out on top. Good thing we're only 3 episodes into the season.
I felt the same way. But upon watching it a second time, it seems the camera puts an emphasis on a hill in the background at the beginning of that scene. We see the Governor drive up and get their attention. Meanwhile, his men come down the hill behind the Army guys, fan out in the tall grass, and flank them. At least that's the only way I can explain it.
So you get a chance to add a bunch of soldiers to your group and you chose to kill them instead?? That's simply stupid and shows governors lust for power imo.

I havent read the comic books, but what you see as an addition to Woodbury, the Governor it seems sees them as a threat.
I would think its because...where the did the military guys come from?! It would seem there *IS* a government still in effect, somewhere, to be sending out National Guardsmen around in choppers. The Governor, as was implied, enjoys his power immensely and if it were to come out that there is another civilization out there, he wouldnt have the monopoly in power he currently wields.
Also, from what I can tell, the chopper did not malfunction and go down. It was shot down by small arms fire (unrealistic obviously, unless we're talking about a Barret 50 cal hitting the engine of a moving, flying target...that would be a one in a billion shot). Thats why the Governor and his men were so quick to the crash site. They shot it down.
A lot more going on with Woodbury than meets the eye.
I can see why the governor wouldn't want those soldiers in Woodbury. The governor wants to be the man and have everything under his control.
With the soldiers living in Woodbury, they would probably still respond to the man with the highest rank among them and not the governor. Maybe, guns and supplies are his priority and not more man.
I thought i heard the Governor saying they had a few army vets in Woodbury, unless he was talking about old man, that type of organized attack is not impossible.
I remain intrigued to see how the Woodbury arc is going to play out just because what's happening in the show is SO different than what happened in the comics. Some of the character names are the same, and the image of The Governor watching his aquariums is taken from the comics, but otherwise the introduction of the town is completely different.
Son the pilot explained everything.There was an encampment,similar to woodbury but fell when a person was bitten.Then they traveled by ground but were stuck in a traffic jam,and took the (knowingly) malfunctioning chopper to look around.
Eh, it's a TV show, so I'm not really upset about the whole Army scenario. But to think those guys wouldn't have a perimeter set up with LP/OPs and guards out is preposterous considering you'd have a 360 degree threat from walkers. It was a bigass leap is all I'm saying, and one that would be expected from a TV program about zombies
The one thing I really hope they include from the comic is the governors...Let's just say he cared for something in the comic book that may or may not be included in the show.
If you like zombie movies there are lots of cool games out there. FPS and turn based phone apps. ("Rebuild 2" is my favorite)

I just watched it; was pretty good. I kinda rolled my eyes at the cliché tough guys surrounding the perimeter. Everyone else is clean and normal and you got these guys that look like they roll around in pig all night. And it's worth mentioning again,
And that blonde lady is still a dip . I took a little pity on her earlier in the season cuz she was dying and but now that she's better, she's turned back into the re that shot Daryl (I'll bet you forgot that).
didn't really like episode, mostly just cause idc about that blonde or the black chick. but the guy who plays merle does a good job, and "the governor" seems interesting.

5/10 Glad to see the new characters & situations, although the "reveal" of their true character was pretty silly and sloppy. I wonder what HBO or Showtime-type production values would have done with this material. Still the only zombie show on TV, so rock on...
