Jumper (2008) - 4.5/10
pretty dumb concept. Falls in the category of B-list fake sci fi.
Juno (2007) - 4/10
what a dumb ending
Also dumb and ahead of its time was to have a boy play a pregnant girl
Jumper (2008) - 4.5/10
pretty dumb concept. Falls in the category of B-list fake sci fi.
Charlie St. Cloud (2010) - 5/10
at least this one had a good ending, but the whole ghosty concept with the kid brother was weird and stupid. Just a B-movie that's touchy feely and the decent ending gives an otherwise mediocre movie a slight last minute boost
The Fastest Woman on Earth (2022) 7.5/10
Points knocked off because it started as a fluffy do entation of the women's landspeed record attempt and continued to be almost completely uncritical. Howevah, it is really beautifully made and shows how serious and methodical this enterprise and the people involved are given it's largely DIY -- e.g., the car used is basically an old supersonic fighter jet with its wings removed. It had some nice background material including a previous record holder who deserves her own do entary. The GoPro footage of the speed runs is compelling -- including the final run.
This might be part of the last gasp of good stuff from HBO Max before Discovery potentially ruins it. Have to wait and see.
Has anybody seen the new All Quiet on the Western Front yet? I think it came out recently but not sure which date.
Out on Netflix now here. Will watch sometime this week.
7/10
Really if they had just stuck to the book it would have been 10/10. Definitely well made -- probably the best overall depiction of western-front WWI -- but the screenwriters somehow didn't have faith in an all-time classic? Progressively unravels if you read the book and actually undermines some of its main themes; I think only one critic whose review I've read actually has read it. Worth watching but ultimately disappointing.
Black Adam 4/10
Other than wonder woman 1, DC just does not get what character development and story telling means. Dr Fate is too great of a character to be treated like this.
Blade Runner 2049 (2017) - 3/10 and that's being generous
School for Scoundrels (2006) - 7/10
cute but corny. Short movie but that's okay because that meant no useless filler parts in this case.
Sicario II (Dia of the Soldado - 2018) : 7.5/10
Just not nearly as good as the epic first one in 2015 which was a 9.75/10. The opening 15 minutes or so were great, but the second half of the movie plot just lacked intensity and was harder to follow than the first one by a mile.
This movie was fantastic
wut is she throwing up
Ticket to Paradice.
Have any board heteros seen this?
That does look very gold and shiny, but I did not notice it looking like that in the movie.
reminiscent of slither 2006
Nope but there's loads of billboards and transit signs with that damn ad for that movie out in LA just 3 days ago when I left to come home. Saw ads all over the place for that sappy in LA.
watched the tim burton batman movies and they are probably a 6/10, perhaps the first one's a 7. The stories are pretty meh and even the acting ain't that great, but damn the music, scenery and the atmosphere is so damn good. That Danny Elfman score when Batmobile goes into the batcave through the woods is a ing masterpiece, just as the main Batman theme.
The Burton Batman theme is one of the best movie scores ever made...right up there with Star Wars and Indiana Jones.
All of those movies you'd hope to grow out of by say 16.
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story
Not sure why it didn't occur to me that a Weird Al biopic would be a parody of rock biopics, but it was and it was glorious. Absolutely bonkers movie. May have pushed the boundaries a bit on ridiculousness towards the end but I still loved it. 8/10
It's on my list. For some reason, I can't get past the idea that I don't want to spend 1 1/2 hours committed to a movie but will watch a couple episodes of a series that I give up on.
And then at other times, I'll just plow through movies. I'm quite sure that when I'm on my deathbed, I'll regret how many hours I've wasted.
I saw that awhile back... 7/10, tbh
The Barbarian - HBO Max
Horror flick about a girl that rents an Air B&B. Crazy stuff ensues.
Had great reviews for a horror film so I checked it out.
Very well done. Maybe a couple of "Don't go in there / don't do that" moments.
But a pretty fresh concept. The HBO version said it included additional scenes so it ran for two hours.
Shows as a 1:42 on RT. There was definitely about 15 minutes of unnecessary scenes.
7/10 (which for me it very rewarding for a horror movie)
Lots of those. But I think that may have been the point. You're supposed to be baffled at how often she puts her own safety on the line for these pathetic dudes.
