Lots of those. But I think that may have been the point. You're supposed to be baffled at how often she puts her own safety on the line for these pathetic dudes.
yeah...to some degree. I also think maybe they painted the chick as a good person and that was just her character. I don't want to give too much away. Hard to talk about the movie without doing so.
But I liked it a lot. Hard to find a decent horror movie and this one was more than that.

Im Westen nichts neues - 8/10
I did not see the previous, quiet on the western front, movies and didnt read the book, so idk what to expect, but damn, this is one of the better war movies. Surprised its on netflix.. anyway, great acting, great locations, pretty solid effects and battle scenes. The only thing that bothered me was the music which kinda felt out of place. This also would go nice with the 1917 movie.

Looked like a decent suspense movie with Idris Elba stuck in some part of Africa being hunted by a lion. Wasn't expecting anything special. But it was awful.
Elba was terrible. A large part due to the material. But the dialog sounds like they were just making it up on the spot. Especially during the lion scenes.

    The Commuter
Liam Neeson has to solve a situation on a train. The situation is interesting. But it becomes more contrived as the movie goes on and really jumps the shark at the end.
I'd say it was actually enjoyable for an hour or so.

Yup, I remember watching that one right as it came out. Gave me nostalgia for the brief couple months I lived in NYC and rode the MTA. But other than that the plot was kind of iffy and as you said, lost suspense down the stretch. 6.5/10 better than the average movie that comes out though.

It’s more interesting than entertaining. Watching young Spielberg making home movies is awesome. The actor playing him is fantastic, as are all the kids. Judd Hirsch is awesome in a small role. Same with David Lynch in easily the best scene of the film. Seth Rogen is Seth Rogen.

And there’s a ton of praise in reviews for Paul Dano and Mic e Williams, but I actually thought they were both mediocre. Paul Dano is trying to play quiet strength, but he just comes across as flat and emotionless half the time. And on the opposite end, Mic e Williams is going for gold in the Overacting Olympics, and trying to beat out the Julianne Moore Magnolia performance for the most over-the-top hysterical woman in a film.

You can feel the love Spielberg had putting this movie together, but he focuses way too much on the parents in the first half of the film. It’s probably necessary for the second half to pay off, but it feels like homework getting through it. But he absolutely nails the climax. Not a must watch in theaters, but I’m still glad I saw it.

Watched a bunch of movies over the holidays...

The Stranger - Australian movie about trying to catch a child killer who they previously hadn't been able to convict. Great acting, great story and well done.
    8/10

Emily the Criminal - Aubrey Plaza stars and is fantastic. About a girl who can't find a normal job and makes money with credit card fraud. Really enjoyed this as well. It's only 1.5 hours and never lags.
    8/10

Bullet Train - meh. Was just OK. I'm not convinced Brad Pitt is a great actor. He was irritating as f in this action/comedy movie.
    6/10

Vengence - Written, directed, and starred in by B.J. Novak (Ryan from the office). This was incredibly well written. About a podcaster from New York who is doing a show based on a murder in west Texas. He goes out there with preconceived ideas that of course get changed. I was just looking to kill some time but this was a pretty great movie. Novak is going to be huge imo.
    8/10

The Menu - I don't go to the theater often but we were bored and this looked like it would be fun. It has a great premise but in the end, it just goes off the rails. Good cast and very stylish. But for me, it goes off the rails too fast.
    6/10

Nope - Jordan Peele show about an alien. It's OK. Wasn't a bad story. Acting was good although one of the characters irritated the f out of me. A lot of, "why did you do that?" moments. One of the backstories was maybe the most interesting thing about it.

Oh yeah...I also watched a move called, "Bandit". Josh Duhmal and Mel Gibson. Supposedly based on a true story about the most prolific bank robber in Canadian history.
    It was OK.

Causeway - Jennifer Lawrence and Bryan Tyree Henry (Paper Boi from Atlanta)
Lawrence comes back from Afghanistan and has some issues and becomes friends with Henry. Set in New Orleans. The acting is great and believable. But it's slow and depressing at times. I stuck it out because I like Lawrence and Henry but I didn't really get much out of it.
    5/10

Under the Dirt - Low budget about two dudes in an apartment complex that witness some supernatural events. Looked promising but it was pretty self indulgent and was all over the place. Was hoping it'd be something like Primer but it fell well short of that.
    5/10

X - Horror film about some people going to shoot a porno on a farm. Had good reviews so I checked it out. It's very well done but in the end, it's just a slasher pic. Although it does have a little deeper context.
    6/10

I'm Thinking of Ending Things - surreal movie about relationships and time. Stars Jessie Buckly (Fargo) and Jesse Plemons. Acting is great and the story isn't bad but it drags on and it's too weird for it's own good.

    Wakanda 7/10.

Fun movie but the premise was a little flimsy and I thought the new black panther scenes were underwhelming

Julia Louise and Martin Freeman being in the movie were complete wastes of time other than to tell the audience background info on them

Just walked out of the theater… , man…

Give Mark Rylance another Oscar. Great cameos from Michael Stuhlbarg, Chloe Sevigny and Jessica Harper. Unsettling and unnerving

I give it a 9 for the Joy Division and New Order drops.

Some very realistic insights into what comes down with high stakes "home" games.
She was a tough chick, for sure.
Glad she landed on her feet.

The scene where they misapplied what the nutts are, that was a major screw up.

    For sure.

The one big plot hole I kept thinking about was that her close friends and family said, "she didn't even take Advil". Which I get that they're trying to shield her. But the Mexican drug dude said the exact same thing. So it's pretty unbelievable that her brother would have been able to call the Mexican guy and convince him to say that. When it's in his best interest to just tell the truth.

Other than wonder woman 1, DC just does not get what character development and story telling means. Dr Fate is too great of a character to be treated like this.
We had fun watching it even though the DECU makes absolutely zero sense if you even try to think about it. They were setting up the Kandaqi kid to be the next Dr. Fate with his third act getup. I was surprised they didn't close the deal in an end credit scene.

EDIT: I think in classic Warner fashion, the suits wanted to hedge their bets because Pierce Brosnan was such a strong presence in the movie. A deleted end credit scene shows someone unknown picking up Fate's helmet (my theory is it's Amon); its tacked on disintegration leaves the possibility of bringing Brosnan back comic book style.

Brosnan was perfect in the role. I thought Hodge was terrific as Hawkman. They should have spent 15-20 minutes on their background together coming in. Especially with those two lackey heroes they brought along for a few goof ball scenes.

I thought the movie had potential to easily be a 7 or 8, especially with a $200 million budget
