Sideways...Paul Giamatti is excellent as usual. Everything works about this movie.
9/10
Samuel L Jackson should have played a much bigger role in this film. Frankly, he should play a much bigger role in every movie he's in. Great actor!
Sideways...Paul Giamatti is excellent as usual. Everything works about this movie.
9/10
The French Connection
Always heard how good this was. 1971 movie with Gene Hackman as Mickey Doyle tracking a heroin dealer in NYC.
It was hard to watch. The directing and editing were terrible. And the story wasn't that compelling. At least the way they told it.
One of the funnier scenes is when a sniper on top of a 6 or 7 story building shoots at Hackman while he's on the ground. Hackman runs up to the top, then looks down and sees the sniper running away. The next scene is Hackman exiting the building and somehow only being 100 yards or so behind the running sniper.
3/10 at best
Midnight Express
Haven't watched in a a while. Based on true story...young American gets busted for trying to smuggle hashish back from Turkey. He's sentenced to 4 years for possession. When he's 58 days short, they change the sentence to 30 years.
Pretty horrifying situation. Well done movie.
7.5/10
Red Rocket 5/10
Director has some very good ability to keep you watching.
However super lame rug pull at the end takes 4 points off for me.
Some hyping up the girl who co stared playing as "Strawberry" is going to be the next big thing.
While I'm fine with her acting, if she is the *next big thing* it will simply be more Hollyweird casting couch b.s.
I was pulling for washed ex porn star and younger gf. To find out he was just trying to use her and no real love.....barf.
Suzanna Son who played Strawberry in Red Rocket.
We'd seen everything else at the movies right now, had never seen The Lost Boys and they have right now for $1 at Santikos.
Not sure if this is a cult classic because it's so cheesy? We decided to laugh at it to make it watchable.
2/10 for serious, 7/10 for laughs
I mean...it's like a lot of 80's movies. They weren't necessarily cheesy at the time. Especially considering they were made for teenagers and young adults. But yeah...none of that holds up today.
I'd always heard how awesome The Great Escape is so I finally watched it over the weekend. It's cheesy as and it's widely recognized as a great movie.
I had to make myself finish it.
Obviously, I've been on an old movie kick.
Great Escape - 5/10
Super disappointing. And long. (bend over, I'll give you super disappointing and long).
Glory - 7/10
Another movie I'd never seen although I'd heard it was good. And it is. I think the worst part is Matthew Broderick.
raiser 2022 - 3/10
I expected this to be way more creepy. Some Cenobites look nice, but other than that pretty generic horror movie, if i can even call this a horror, cause i didnt find anything scary. I also was hoping all the characters would die, cause they were pretty annoying and dumb. Id still rather watch the original, as it had a much better atmosphere.
Bullet train - 4/10
The only thing i liked about this was the 2 brother characters. The whole movie also felt like a wannabe Guy Ritchie movie, but with a lot more Michael Bay idiotism in it, especially the finale of the movie.
Broderick ruins that film big time. Terrible, unconvincing acting. The rest of the cast was great, even Cary Elwes was likable.
Amsterdam 2/10
Great actors, a lot of style, but after 20 min, was bored silly. I want my two and half hours back
I'm not gonna say you will love this, but i do think it's one of your types of movies.
That sucks. I was looking forward to it. Although I'd have waited until it was streaming anyway. Damn...this is brutal from RogerEbert.com....
Simultaneously overstuffed and undernourished, frantic and meandering, “Amsterdam” is one big, star-studded, hot mess of a movie.
I wish I read that before going.
Of course, there's not much showing at the theater right now, we wanted to go sit in a theater with a bucket of popcorn and that's what was there
Northman 6/10
Well shot, nice visuals, nice sets, well acted, actually felt like a theater performance at times, but also very generic revenge story. It could also have been shorter for at least 20 minutes. The love story was whatever, the twist with the mom not loving her son was nothing special and the action scenes looked way too choreographed and slow.
I guess i expected more from the director that made Lighthouse, but i also hear he had problems with the studio, so we never really got to see his cut of the film.
You guys didn't think that looked horrible in the previews? Wasn't surprised at all when I went to rotten tomatoes and saw it in the 30s despite the strong cast.
Smile 8/10
Pretty much had me on the edge of my seat the whole movie. No real jump scares, the fear often came from wondering if a new scene was something the demon was doing or if it was a hallucination from Sosie Bacon's character.
I don't really even remember the previews other than thinking it was a good cast.
Ditto. All star cast, something something murder mystery is all I recall from previews.
Hustle 6/10
Adam Sandler and Juancho Hernangómez.
1/2 good and 1/2 meh.
Had it's moments but basically a bunch of cliches and name dropping cameos. Felt forced.
Queen Latifa as Sandlers wife was a pathetic cast. Some woke b.s. must have inspired that attempt. No true chemisty at all.
Halloween Ends 4/10
I think i gave the previous one the same grade, but i guess this one was a little better. So perhaps its a 5 or that one was a 3. Anyway, i actually didnt mind the fact that this is kinda a different halloween movie with not a lot of Michael in it and the parts with him are kinda the weakest for me.
I also hope they dont make another one for at least 10 years now. Just give it a rest.
Deadstream 5/10
This is a pretty solid horror comedy. It actually starts as pretty creepy and you think its gonna be something like a Blair Witch Project, but then it goes bat crazy and it becomes more like Ash vs Evil Dead. It also takes place in just one house and most of the time you spend looking at the guy's face. Id say the main guy is overacting, but he is a weird youtuber guy, so i think that was pretty accurate. Perhaps it would have been better if the whole movie was scary and not funny, cause when it becomes funny, i lost all that creepy vibe and watched it more as a comedy. Anyway, id still reccomend this, especially for the halloween season.
Black Adam 6/10
The little kid and goofy uncle were too cheesy for me. Hawkman and Dr. Fate were cool.
