Would appreciate some advice from the computer savvy folks here.

Downloaded BG and started playing it, but for some reason pretty often the screen freezes for a couple of seconds. I downloaded Gamebooster, but it didn't seem to help.

Now my vid card ain't great but this is a fairly new laptop with 4g ram, it really should have no problem running an old ass game like BG. What can I try to solve this problem?

Yeah, it's probably the game then. Haven't had the freezing problem on other games I played. What can I do to try and solve this?

download a patch, or google the problem. More than likely, you'll find dozens of threads.

, now that you mention it, I did experience a similar problem when trying to run Oblivion....I just assumed it was because my computer couldn't handle it. This is a game from 1997, my laptop should have no trouble running it even at the highest settings.

Update your soundchip drivers as well... sound can cause freezing that looks similar to video card overheating, including blue screening.
