Applewhite
What are the possible replacements for Harsins job?
Maybe this will keep some of them around... Like the ones that didn't get along with him, which seems to be a good amount of players.
It's an odd feeling, I just don't care anymore. When Muschamp left I was panicking, now I feel no positive or negative emotions towards this program.
Doesn't bother me at all. Harsin really couldn't do much anyway under Mack Brown. Brown is just way too conservative.
Hope this doesn't mean we see Case start next year though, haha.
Didn't even consider the QB situation. Harsin was the main guy sticking up for Ash .
+1. I'd like to see Applewhite to offensive coordinator and QBs, hire Claude Mathis of DeSoto HS for RBs.
Two years ago when I found out that Muschamp and Akina were leaving I felt sick. With Harsin, I couldn't care less. I don't see this as a downgrade but also not an upgrade. We'll see what happens.
If that's the case, do we go after their RB too??

It may not have shown in some games, but the offense improved at a fairly high rate overall this year. I have no faith in Applewhite whatsoever, personally. I don't even know why Harsin took this job having to share a le with him.
Longhorn Network reporting that Applewhite is Texas' new play caller and Wyatt has been promoted to co-offensive coordinator. The le change for Wyatt is likely a way to get him more money and prevent him from going elsewhere. Unfortunately, Mack is still the boss, but hopefully we see a more up-tempo offense under this new arrangement.
It'd be worth a shot. I just think Mathis would be an excellent hire and a great recruiter for the DFW area.
What is it about Mathis that makes him such a popular choice by Texas fans? I know he is well respected and like by the other HS coaches in Texas, and that he will give Texas a huge advantage in Texas recruiting. But I know nothing else. Didn't he have the RB coaching job at Houston for a month or so?
Basically, I just want to know why he should have the job instead of a proven RB coach at the collegiate level. No offense or anything, just cure curiosity.
Personally, I would rather let Major keep his RB job and let him be the OC. Then hire an old QB coach with a proven record of developing QB's, and with no desire to leave the program if he is offered an OC or HC job somewhere else. Texas needs stability right now, IMO.
They'll get stability when Mack leaves.
Texas will never have stability with it's staff, we will aways get the best assistants and we will always be a launching pad for them to get head coaching gigs
Granted I'm an outsider, but I don't get the fascination with Applewhite as a coach either. The fact that 5 years into having that co-OC le, Mack still feels the need to pair Applewhite up with yet another co-OC should be a pretty big indicator to everyone that Mack doesn't think Major can do the job. Major not even getting to coach the very position he played is also telling.
Agreed. It blows me away the fact that Saban hired him as an OC at Alabama.
Yep. And one season later he wasn't Saban's OC anymore. Seems pretty obvious in hindsight that Major's return wasn't entirely his idea.
Durham Smythe is going to decommit soon, so don't be shocked when it happens.
UT would have done good to pick up Neal Brown from the wreckage at Tech.
....but MBTF continues to coddle instead of demand excellence....
24/7 reporting it's done. He called Diaz (his area recruiter) earlier today and de-committed. I guess Harsin leaving was the excuse he needed to make it official. Too much smoke around his recruitment the past few weeks.
We saw this one coming the day he did not show up to the banquet. Robinson is next.
