Butch Davis will not be taking the Florida International job, per his attorney:
http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports...g-the-fiu-job/
No. As good as he may be, every single offensive lineman and quarterback that come to Texas have to redshirt. I don't have any stats but I can't think of many true freshman offensive linemen that come in and play really well.
Something has to be done about Espinosa though. I'm not sure our coaches are willing to bench him but maybe Major and Searels figure it out.
Move Walters to center and bring Flowers in or put Flowers at center. Curtis Riser redshirted, maybe he can step in. Just do anything.
Espinosa was the #1 center in the nation the year he came out of high school
A lot of guys with a lot of stars beside their names have been through Austin the last 4 years who simply are not that great. SMUs current quarterback was the #1 or #2 QB recruit in the country in 2009, but how'd he do at UT?
The lack of quality contributions from the 2008-2010 recruiting classes hurt this program significantly.
If Dominic Espinosa was the #1 center coming out of high school, that's fine and dandy. I watch the games and I see a guy getting beat too often - a guy lacking strength at the point of attack for run blocking - a guy lacking the athletic ability to recover and get in front of a rusher. I don't like him as a player right now. I just hope there are other guys on the 40 acres that can come in and take the center job next year.
Some quotes from A'Shawn Robinson to Rivals.
"My commitment has been really solid a whole year," Robinson said. "It's been pretty cool going out to see some games and talking to some of my friends who go there and just being around the players and coaches and stuff."
"I was interested but I didn't really get to go see them (Alabama) because I had family issues," Robinson said. "I have the chance to go see them now, so I'm going to go see them ? (and) see if I'm making the right decision."
"They (Texas) were the first school to start talking to me and the first school to offer me," Robinson said. "I like the environment down there and the players, so I was like just get on board and go to Texas."
"It's solid (the commitment), solid as a rock," Robinson said.
Also said that he's going to visit Alabama on Jan. 18 and closes out with a Texas visit on Jan. 25.
Interview with Kent Perkins by a bit of a biased interviewer

Damon Sayles @DamonSayles
Antwuan Davis lining up at both CB and safety. Definitely showing his versatility. Most likely will see time at CB at #HookEm. #ArmyBowl
Dustin McComas @DMcComasOB
Cold, wet, and rainy here in San Antonio but the West team going at it. Pretty solid day so far for Tyrone Swoopes, especially in the rain.
Damon Sayles @DamonSayles
A'Shawn Robinson really looking good so far. Jake Raulerson showing worth at center. Still somewhat early. #HookEm#ArmyBowl
Dustin McComas @DMcComasOB
What I've liked about Swoopes is outside a few skipped throws early ball is coming out clean and a tad quicker. #Longhorns
Wescott Eberts @SBN_Wescott
Railerson just doesn't have the mass yet for OL in college, coaches don't want to redshirt him.
Wescott Eberts @SBN_Wescott
Tough to miss Ricky Seals-Jones on a fade in RZ, but Tyrone Swoopes just managed it. Well overthrown."
Better throw into the flat for Tyrone Swoopes in continued RZ drills, hitting Torii Hunter, Jr. for a TD.
Wescott Eberts @SBN_Wescott
Didn't catch much of morning session, but Tyrone Swoopes threw a nice wheel route to Thomas Tyner that was dropped. #ArmyBowl
(247)
-Tyrone Swoopes is struggling a bit with intermediate throws
-Jake Raulerson has good footwork but he's used to being the strongest kid. He just got driven back pretty easily
-Kent Perkins us what you draw up in an OT. Long and lean with a great frame and real good feet. Could stand to add some more upper body mass but that will come at Texas.
-Altee Tenpenny with a nice wheel route from Swoopes.
-[Jake Oliver] is the most polished of the West WRs. Catching everything smoothly and precise rouge runner.

A'Shawn Robinson passes the eye test at the Army game

He's a man and possibly 40. I really hope we can keep him, i'm glad his last visit is to Texas.
He and Kent Perkins were two of the top performers in practice today.
-DT A'Shawn Robinson, Fort Worth (Texas) Arlington Heights – The Texas commit is ranked as the No. 3 offensive tackle in the country but he was flat out dominant at defensive tackle on Monday. It will be hard for the Longhorn coaches to keep him away from that side of the ball. Robinson compares favorably with LSU defensive tackle Anthony Johnson in that they are both incredibly athletic for their size. In fact, Robinson even played some defensive end in practice.
The 6-foot-5, 302-pound defender was a force in the middle and only got beat once in one-on-ones – and that was by fellow top performer Boutte – as he used his lower body strength to bulrush as well as his quickness to beat the offensive linemen off the ball.
-OT Kent Perkins, Dallas (Texas) Lake Highlands – The Texas commit looks most like a prototypical offensive tackle of any of the linemen in the game. The 6-foot-6, 285-pound prospect spent the day at right tackle and that is probably his future position but he showed quick feet on screen passes and moved well in dropping back into pass protection.
Perkins has a very quick drop step in pass pro that allows him to cut off the quick edge rushers. He fires off low and keeps his legs moving in the run game too. He needs to add some muscle mass in his upper body but he is very good technique-wise at this point.
Also
It may have been the rain or it may have been being rusty from too much time off from the regular season but all three quarterbacks were erratic on the day. All three had their moments but LSU commit Hayden Rettig was the most consistent of the bunch. USC commit Max Browne and Texas commit Tyrone Swoopes both missed their targets badly quite a few times.

Bobby Burton @BobbyBurton247
ASU asst coach Larry Porter is the "leading candidate" to join the Texas football staff, accd to source. #hookem
He was interviewed by Texas today, per OrangeBloods.
Known as an absolute stud of a recruiter in Houston, East Texas, Louisiana and other parts of the Southeast. With that being said, he's been known to have had shady dealings while on the LSU staff so this one is kind of surprising knowing how Mack operates. My first thought is it's a move to counter A&M's recruiting momentum in the state.

A. Robinson is going to be such a stud.
Surprisingly
Dallas Jackson @RivalsDallas
From the coaches: Best QB so far on the West? #Longhorns commit Tyrone Swoopes (@TyroneSwoopes1) #ArmyBowl
From the coaches: Best DL so far on the West? #Longhorns commit A'Shawn Robinson (@ashawnrobinson) #ArmyBowl
Only Longhorn in the UA game, Darius James, is also doing well, apparently pancaked nkemdiche today.

@footballscoop: Sources tell us Arizona State running backs coach Larry Porter is moving to Austin, TX http://t.co/wlPItI8Q
"Well, what I’m about to say doesn’t make much sense, but I’d like to get your thoughts anyway. I would never suggest such an outlandish thing if it didn’t come from an unbiased, yet blow you away type of source. This is a hall of fame football coach talking with someone close to the Texas program. He says the day after the National Championship game, Nick Saban is getting on a plane to fly to Austin to sign a contract to coach the Longhorns. There wasn’t any discussion of money or terms, but the source was matte of fact an unemotional apparently. I don’t buy it and risk being laughed at, but the source of rumor is unreal. What are your thoughts?" - Jesus Shuttlesworth
I don't know what to think, and I didn't see it posted in here, so I thought I just wanted to share it.
Shuttlesworth is a joke, I don't believe a word of his recent post.
247 has always been really down on swoopes
Bobby Burton @BobbyBurton247
Rank of #Texas commits at Army prax by @Perroni247. 1. A. Robinson, 2. K. Perkins, 3. A. Davis, 4. J. Oliver, 5. J. Raulerson, 6. T. Swoopes
Jesus gained fame and credibility during the coaching changes in 2010 when he made a lot of spot on calls. He's been crap since.
WR Torii Hunter, Jr. broke his femur yesterday in Army Bowl practices. Out six to eight months. Damn.
"The Eyes" was not published this week because of the New Year.
