    Haven't you been paying attention?

Pop paired TD/Splitter to start the Laker game....the spurs suddenly found their balls and realized they could play with the lakers....

It only took Pop two in' seasons to do what we have been SCREAMING for....

Thanks Pop...for finally seeing the BIG IN' ELEPHANT in the room....

    Again....

The biggest obstacle to a le is Pop....if he continues burying Splitter and overplaying Bonner the spurs won't win in the playoffs...

I am here and will stand up to this...

You think I would be unhappy that Pop did what I have been asking for?
This is true. The fact that pop had to switch to a lineup he never prepares to play against a likely playoffs match-up shows that he hasn't prepared the team for the playoffs.

Pretty stupid to think not starting someone all year and then starting that person(after no injuries) is good coaching.

If only pop read this board more...the spurs would have 6+ championships at this point.
Perfect. The funny thing is, some of them actually believe it.

I think what limits Pop is his simulator crew mentality. He values system above players which any former player and current coach will realize doesn't make sense. Using his system he's won but I think if he was more of a player's coach he would have won more.

I'd say so when Blair/Bonner are the ones getting the nod. Even then I'd be fine with Splitter not starting if he played Manu-type minutes. The shift he played against Houston is a good example of how I'd prefer his minutes being distributed if he can't start.

Plain and simple, you need to play your best players and those best players need cohesiveness if for no other reason then so Pop has the option of throwing out the big line-up when we need stops and rebounds or for just keeping Tiago in the game with Tim when they're both rolling.

I know some people on here like the hustle and effort that Bonner and Blair put in, and I agree that Bonner's really been trying hard out there. While effort is nice, I think talent and height is more important in the playoffs. That said, it's too late for Splitter now. We'll have to just hope Bonner can make his shots this year and that Pop doesn't overplay him.

And for the record, nobody's claiming to be a better coach than Pop or anything (strawman much?). What most "haters" are saying is that he's making a mistake that'll significantly weaken our team when it matters. The Spurs may be able to still win it all even then but that doesn't necessarily mean that this big rotation was the correct one.

Pop is the best current coach in the NBA by far, and anyone that doesn't agree is delusional.

If he can't even get the respect he deserves from his own fanbase, where else is he gonna get it? Ridiculous.

Since the Spurs have the #1 record in the west, I'd say the evidence suggests otherwise.

    At worst, it's inconclusive.

Playoffs Blake. Playoffs. Those two are fine against most teams during the rest of the year. That said, I'd rather lose more often in the regular season and be more prepared for the post-season than have the #1 record in the West only to be ousted when we run into teams that have built a more solid foundation than us.

Blair lacks focus, discipline, and height.

Bonner's 3-point shooting tends to take a dip in the playoffs but he's alright for about 10-15 unless he's hot. He just plays too much.

Meanwhile, we have a legit big on the bench who plays defense, rebounds, and scores easy baskets without making too many mistakes. These are things that can be relied upon to ensure that your frontcourt isn't a total liability when it matters. The problem there is that Splitter hasn't had time to fully sort things out. And now it's too late.

We have evidence from last year and the year before (and history really) that an over reliance on 3-point shooting + a weak frontcourt is a recipe for disaster in the post-season. Nobody has won while using it with mediocre defense and while the Spurs have a better shot this year than other seasons they still don't have that kind of room for error.

Hopefully Bonner can produce like he's never done before and the 3 point shooting stays hot. The way this team has been managed, that's their best shot at getting number 5. Pop's a great coach. One of the best ever. But he's dropped the ball on this one and we'll just have to hope the team/match-ups can overcome that.

    Playoffs Blake. Playoffs.
Wasn't aware they were over already.

Was Pop's coaching during the playoffs this year really that bad?

...He's making the same mistakes as before. The only difference is that the Western conference is weaker and none of the top teams from there play quality defense.

If they haven't played any playoff games, how do you know he's making bad coaching mistakes

It happens with every fan base. The Laker fans used to be merciless on Phil when he would not call timeouts and let the team "work through it". On and on, even with the best coaches.

Imo, however, we get mixed up between the two. Calling Pop a bad coach because he did not play Splitter and Duncan together enough is absolutely ridiculous. Stating that is not a wise move try this pairing without declaring Pop a horrible coach is I believe a legitimate complaint. Of course we can all question individual decisions, but on the whole, people who think Pop is truly a bad coach are basically divorced from reality, possibly psychotic. (Probably had great success coaching on the YMCA level; so of course its all so clear.)
