If it's clear that you're reading another article and simply paraphrasing it and you don't give credit to the original source, it's plagiarism.

Plagiarism isn't just limited to copy/pasting exact quotes/sentences/paragraphs without properly sourcing the information. Paraphrasing large quan ies of text without giving credit is also plagiarism.

Can't you though? Because I see that all over the internet in so many ways. I thought that if it wasn't some original idea - and I don't think news reporting counts in that manner - then it wasn't plagerism?

I'm no expert on it, but I do remember that they have a harder time enforcing it if neither of the sites (the one copying, or the one copied from) are commercial websites. But if either one charges a subscription, or runs any sort of paid advertising, it changes things.

I remember reading about a few cases where websites copied someone else's material, and only wound up in big trouble because the lawyers found some way that the site owner was receiving compensation. They weren't making a profit or anything, but just the fact that there were some funds coming in put them into a different situation. But, as I recall, they had been asked to take down the copyrighted material first, and refused.

Interesting. In light of the fact that these guys are charging for their insights, then it looks like there's a precedent there then.

Like it or not, ESPN has no choice but to can thIs guy.
