Scola's MRI was postponed for a couple of days... apparently nothing serious to warrant urgency...
Thanks.
I think Scola is going to get claimed. I'd say Hornets > Mavs > Bobcats as the order of likeliest destination.
Scola's MRI was postponed for a couple of days... apparently nothing serious to warrant urgency...
We know if hes cleared waivers tomorrow at 4, correct?
Correct - (assuming you are in the midwest) 5pm EST and 4pm CST
I say Scola clears waivers and ends up on the Spurs.
You also thought the Spurs were going to win the championship at one point last season.
So did everyone else.
I won't go that far to say I thought they would win a championship but I had them in the mix when the playoff matchups fell the way they did.
I also thought the frontline as weak as it was will never produce a le and I have said moving forward if Duncan, Manu and Parker are the top 3 players the team won't win another le. Those three were still the top 3 players last season.
I also thought the lakers were coming out of the west and losing to Miami when the playoffs started so yes I was wrong in the playoff predictions.
None of the bids for the bigs have exceeded $2.3M. That includes the premium the winner paid based on what they thought it would take to outbid the other teams. If the minimum bid must indeed be 3.3m for Scola, I wonder what a team thinks the additional premium would have to be to outbid rivals: 3.5m, 3.8m, 4m?
I think the odds are 50-50 he clears. I know that even 4m is stilll value for Scola obviously; however that's a three year commitment which may not be a priority if you are a rebuilding team like the Hornets or Cavs. WRT the Mavs I really don't know what to think. The best news from the Spurs point of view is if Calderon is amnestied. There were rumblings that the mavs were interested.
More and more I think it looks like the Hornets will bid on Scola for sure.
What about ties?
CIA Pop getting other teams to act interested so the Mavs don't bid.
Goes to the team with the worse record in the previous season
They will, he will not be here so I don't worry about that nor think of it. I would like to have him yes, but he won't be in SA.
Spurs fans can't do much but hope he goes unclaimed, but more than likely he will get a bid.
I will be shocked if he clears waivers, but I'm sure most of us will be wondering what's going on around 4pm.
All we can do is wait and see.
Mavericks plan to bid, but not optimistic of landing Luis Scola
As of Saturday night, a Mavericks source said the franchise is leaning strongly toward submitting a bid on Sunday for amnestied former Rockets forward Luis Scola.
The source added, however, that the Mavericks expect other teams’ bids to be higher than the one they would submit.
Unlike Elton Brand, whom the Mavericks claimed Friday with a bid of $2.1 million on his one-year contract, Scola bidders would have to bid at least $3.3 million for the 2012-13 season and at least $10 million spread over three years. That would cover the non-guaranteed portion of Scola’s contract, as required under the amnesty rules.
Houston must pay Scola the $20.6 million he’s guaranteed for 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons.

It's a giant game of hold 'em poker. Teams are saying all KINDS of to throw off other teams, or get them to geek and submit a bid on a player the first leaking team had NO interest in at all. It may be a feint towards a later player they may want to claim.
Wouldn't shock me if 3-4 teams put in a bid. Also wouldn't shock me if he goes unclaimed. Scola, at his age and wear isn't a great bargain at 3yr/10M. Smart teams would rather wait for him to clear and talk about a minimum deal. Why pay the claim fee? Stick Houston with his whole contract and get him on the cheap.
lol no way are the Spurs going to get Scola. Scola needed to say publicly that he didn't want to be claimed by anyone and that he won't play for whatever team picks him. He should have stated that he wants to choose who he plays for and won't suit up for whatever team claims him.
I'm sure there will be numerous bids on him and the Spurs have zero chance of getting him. I don't see how this thread got to 14 pages.
The league doesn't like that. Look at Billups last year.
There won't be a bid on him.
It's really hard to imagine him not being bid on....he's to valuable of a piece to have locked up for ~3M for 3 years. If he clears, this has potential to be a game changer for the Spurs and it would be quite a bit of fortune for the Spurs.
Not only would he be on a likely 1 year deal (which is great), he would be a significant upgrade over Bonner and it would all happen early enough in the year where he would have a full training camp/year to adjust and gel.
What did they do to Billups? I don't recall them doing anything to him.
They also didn't do anything to Fisher after he was refusing to report to Houston. However, potentially if they don't report, they can be banned from playing basketball with any other team (which would include any FIBA associated club teams overseas).
But there isn't anything saying that he can't poison the well by claiming he wouldn't play. If he truly wants to choose where he goes, that is the only way he gets to (See: Dwight Howard)
Yeah, I've pretty much given up hope on Scola. 95% he gets claimed, tbh.
The message Scola sent when he didn't clear up the knee injury with the MRI, is very clear. After the Odom fiasco, its hard to understand why the Mavs want to force things with Scola. If he gets claimed, Scola will lose at least $5M over 3 years.
